Wind energy, the energy harvested from wind, by means of a mechanical generator through the torque applied, is very Earth friendly. There are multiple ways of generating energy from wind, the most common being the white three-bladed design, known as the horizontal axis wind turbine. There also are the vertical axis turbines and ducted wind turbines. The different and unique designs have advantages and disadvantages; vertical axis turbines, are difficult to maintain and constructing them requires skilled operators. On the other hand vertical axis turbines, are very easy to construct and are able to operate at lower speeds. This type of energy is sometimes marked off by people and cities because of the expensive cost as well as the noise it …show more content…

Winds are caused by the heating of the atmosphere, cool air sinks while hot air is lifted up. These are called convection currents and happen all over the Earth at all times. These changes in temperature due to the sun creates movements in the air we call wind. Then, wind turbines is any form use the wind to create energy, making it a form of solar energy. This makes wind turbines actually very sustainable as long as the Earth is being given thermal energy, by an outside source, wind energy will always be one of the way to capture energy from our natural environment, while being very cost …show more content…

People living near the Nile river, during 5000 B.C. created boats propelled by wind energy that they stored in rope for effective transportation. Simple windmills in china allowed for the pumping of water from wells to distant cities. These ideas later shaped the way of modern wind energy technology allowing the efficiency to be the greatest its ever been. As time went on these ideas evolved into greater more efficient designs, and ideas spread and spread. These ideas were used to created almost anything they wanted from mills to grind flour to boats going up rivers with ease. As electricity was gaining some popularity, people began brainstorming way of generating electricity using wind. These people then looked back at past ideas and then one day during the winter of 1887 in Cleveland, Ohio, Charles F. Brush generated the first electricity using the wind. He stored his energy in the basement of his mansion, use gigantic batteries capable of powering his house for weeks at a time. Charles' idea was later used to create modern turbines
