In class we discussed about resilience and sustainability. Society wants to be sustainable, but it always changing and evolving. Kerby (2015), the Anthropocene is an informal geologic chronological term for the proposed epoch that began when human activates had a significant global impact on the Earth’s ecosystems. The Anthropocene works with resilience because of how the world changed after the industrial revolution and how humans effected how the world is today. Kerby (2015), Panarchy is a term devised to describe evolving hierarchical systems with multiple interrelated elements, offers an important new framework for understand and resolving this dilemma. Panarchy works with resilience because it is an infinite loop connected with problems …show more content…
Godfray talked about using various methods to accommodate the growing population, but he could not find a sustainable solution to feed 9 billion people. Godfray used the diagnostic process to help see where the problem lies and to find solutions to fix the problem. Stoecker’s (2013) book, research method for community change, the chapter of diagnosing discussed how there are three things to look for when diagnosing a problem, the problems, opportunities, and issues. Godfray used all 3 of these steps to help find various solutions. Godfray diagnosed the problem that the population is growing at a rapid pace and once we hit 9 billion people there would not be enough food to feed everyone. Godfray found different opportunities like closing the yield gap, increasing production limits, reducing waste, changing diets, and expanding aquaculture. The main issues that Godfray faced was to implement these opportunities and that there is no simple solution that could help as the population grows, but these could be some solutions that could help. Godfray talked about ways to help solve the problem of feeding 9 billion people. In my field work with my group at the food pantry at Western Kentucky University (WKU), these could be beneficial ideas that could be used …show more content…
There has been a lot of problems starting the pantry and the different projects that has been implemented, but failed in the end. I see the problem with trying to feed everyone and keeping the food pantry running because at the food pantry, a majority or all of the food is donated or produced at the office of sustainability. Some people struggle with funds and other matters that really can effect how they acquire meals every night. This is where the food pantry is helping solve some of the problems with hunger in the community at Western. Taking something like the food pantry in a larger scale it would be hard to feed everyone especially due to how rapid the population is growing. This goes back to resilience and how there is always a way to come back from an impact. The food pantry is always finding new ideas and projects that could help benefit the community, but funds are low and most of the food pantry is donations and volunteer work. One idea that my group and I thought of was working with WKU Fresh foods and POD to give some donation or help to the food
