“Life's not about how hard of a hit you can give... it's about how many you can take, and still keep moving forward.” (Stallone) Rocky Balboa uses this as motivation in the motion picture Rocky. This film depicts the misconception that many people have about the American dream. The illusion of the American dream is the impulsion that writer and actor, Sylvestor Stallone, had when producing his movie. By this quote, Rocky Balboa enforces the potential and greatness that is still in America even if much of the hope of the American dream is lost. Throughout the movie, his character's resilience is the prime example of hard work and dedication that is required to benefit from the dream that many people strive to achieve.

At the very end, Rocky, who is then known as “The Italian Stallion,” has the chance to box the greatest boxer of all time, Apollo Creed. It is Rocky’s unappreciated dedication that illustrates the true meaning of the American dream. Although he does not win, his wins the battle within himself. He lasted the entire 15 rounds against the greatest boxer and with this accomplishment, he accomplished a goal that can not be seen by outsiders, but only by those who know of his sole purpose behind joining the match in the first place. This accomplishment symbolizes transition as a character, from being the underdog to someone with much confidence and passion. Just like Rocky’s transition, Philadelphia has also transformed into a great city today. As shown in the film, Philly was run down and dirty. Now today, after the recession, Philadelphia's income recently boosted (Lubrano). Although this is one of the poorest cities in the country based on population, more salaries of science and technology workers are making the economy rise. (Lubrano).
