Henry IV Response Paper In the first act of Henry IV, scene II, We are introduced to Henry’s son, Prince Hal, who comes off as being irresponsible, rude, and a disappointment. However, at the end of the scene he makes a speech about how his behavior is just a ruse, so that when he finally becomes king, he will ditch his “bad influence” friends, change his behavior, and exceed everyone’s expectations. This diabolical plan Hal has scrambled together shows that yes, he is very clever, but when it all unfolds it is left that he only better than expected. This plan may seem like an easy way to impress his criticizers, but if they were to look at his performance as a regular king, his “better than expected” decisions may be sub-par to what is required
