In Michael Mack’s speech “Why Read Shakespeare?”, he argues the merits of reading Shakespeare no matter your intended major, however, his argument has weaknesses due to the bias and fallacies in his speech. As a matter of fact in his speech, he say,”I am a professor of Shakespeare, which, given my topic today”(Mack,1). For the reason that he is an english professor would make him bias due to the fact that he would favor Shakespeare. As a matter a fact, he would arrange for the students to read Shakespeare even those whom major is not on English. Those whom major is a another major should not need to be convinced by a english professor.
Shakespeare has written many plays during his time, and all appear to have a certain re-occuring theme within them. During Shakespeare's time period, there was a very specific social norm held over certain areas within the society, these areas being: nobility, gender and various social statuses. Shakespeare often went against these social norms whilst writing his plays in a very “contrarian” manner. In regards to nobility, Shakespeare loved to create conflict between various households within his plays, or sometimes have a certain family of nobility become torn apart from the inside out (King Lear), all of which are usually sparked by a singular action produced by the main character.
The William Shakespeare have various significant to remember him till now some of the significances are given below; Standard Human Issues: In the society or even in the world most of the people like to talk or read about the stories and read based upon the topic like vengeance, love and friendship which is related human condition. Shakespeare wrote in this topic in that way which bring people together and tear them apart also. He wrote about these topic in time when it is inappropriate to write about this things, anyway he will remember by all generations. It is for these reasons that Shakespeare is regarded as the most influential playwright of the 1500’s, however not many people know much about his upbringing or life beyond the Globe Theater. Moreover, there is a shroud of mystery that envelopes Shakespeare’s later life, along with various conspiracy theories. In order for one to truly understand his exceptional pieces of literature, one must understand his childhood, education, and personal life.
Edmund/Edgar In King Lear by William Shakespeare, an arrogant king divides his kingdom between his two wicked daughters, ignoring his good child and thus destroying the natural order, having his kingdom suffer the consequences. Shakespeare through the use of metaphors and tone as well as language contrasts Edmund’s belief of nature as fair and just, and Edgar’s belief of nature as cruel and incompatible with man. Shakespeare uses the contrast between Edgar and Edmund’s views on nature, and his portrayal of Edmund as cruel and inhuman, and Edgar as kind and compassionate, to show that it is man who should serve society, and those who attempt to make society serve themselves are the cruelest of alll. Edmund sees the social order of man as cruel
The Renaissance is considered the rebirth of Europe where people cared about reading and writing directly after the middle ages. William Shakespeare was a play writer during this period whose many accomplishments impacted the world and reflected the values of the Renaissance. William Shakespeare created many plays during his life that most people enjoyed. William Shakespeare’s plays were famous because all of the words in the plays flowed together even when they didn’t rhyme, This style of poetry inspired many other poets who began to write in the same way around the world.
William Shakespeare was, and remains to be, one of the most famous playwrights (or Writer in general). His work inspired many new writing techniques and established the most basic of jokes-the knock joke of Macbeth. His life was strenuous and had many hardships which influenced his work process and the story of his many plays. He also let himself be inspired by Roman Theatrical technique. His very psyche was intertwined with that of his characters, shining light on one of the greatest minds of the literary world.
Shakespeare is most widely known for his collection of work only because of what they are. For a man of his social status and education to have written such linguistically and culturally advanced plays in his lifetime is what contributes most to his fame. However, the influence that his work had on the English language, both during and after his time, is not as well known. Shakespeare contributed hundreds of words and phrases to the English language that are still used today. In addition, he is also credited with mastering the use of blank verse, causing it to become the standard for future poetic works.
In 1599, at the age of 35, William Shakespeare went through something that changed him and his plays greatly. There are many factors that play into the tragedy that affected Shakespeare and his plays in this time. Shakespeare, nearing the end of his life, was hit with many hardships that changed the nature of his work. Hamlet, one of his greatest tragedies, is said to be influenced by the many deaths that had happened recently in Shakespeare’s life. Politically things were in turmoil, Shakespeare did not get the man he wanted on the throne.
We all know William Shakespeare, the most important author in the English language. Author of 37 plays and 154 sonnets. Even today after 400 years, the themes in his books are still applicable. But some believe Shakespeare didn’t write any of the play he is credited with, or worse didn’t even exist. But is that the absolute truth?
Shakespeare has been a requirement to study every year beginning freshman year. Throughout this time frame, it has become easier and easier to uncover modern meanings to his plays. One must just dig a little deeper to get a better understanding. Although, some of background is missing so there are holes to his story.
It has been often said that Shakespeares plays are no longer relevant to the 21st century, but I think otherwise. I believe that Shakespeares plays are still very relatable and the themes can still connect with the 21st century. Macbeth, for example, has many themes that could connect with the themes and fundamentals of today. Some of the themes in Macbeth that are relevant today is the corruption of power, ambition, and fate. All of these themes happen today in the 21st century, making Macbeth very relevant today.
