Restorative justice is a response to crime in which it allows the victim and the offender to meet face to face and to settle their problems. They are also first time offenders so they have no criminal background and that have a chance to make up for what they did to the hot dog vendor and the man who was hit by the hot dog cart. The restorative justice system would allow for problem solving between the offenders and the victim. The boys made a big mistake but it was not on purpose and it was just a harmless prank gone wrong. The retributive justice system focuses on harsh crime sentences for offenders who committed the crime. This type of system compared to the restorative justice system outs the entire blame on the victim and to punish them with harsh sentences to try and rehabilitate them to the best of the courts or judges abilities. The criminogenic behaviour of all four of these boys was not to commit a crime but a harmless prank on the hot dog vendor that went absolutely wrong. They were just first time offenders who made a mistake that was doing something childish like a prank and they did not mean to hurt the man in the subway, they did not want to murder the man and I am convinced that if the boys would have been sentenced under the restorative justice system they could have made amends with the man who was hit by the cart and they could have helped their community in a big way with a sentence like community service. So in conclusion to prevent these types of crimes and offences from happening again would be to use the acts that several governments have made and have established to help sure the criminal justice is the right one to deal with any and all youth criminals who are committing crime. They should renew and change these acts to help treat youth criminals different and to makes sure they get the punishment that suits them best as well to not being made an example of an offender who is blamed
