The preservation of food is one of the most important methods/techniques used by mankind to date. History has shown that these techniques were utilized by multiple cultures from all over the world at various stages in time.1 The process itself is applied to prevent the spoilage of food items, ultimately extending shelf life and increasing man’s survivability. With limited technology, traditional techniques used by different cultures consisted of curing meat by smoking and salting, fermenting wine and freezing food if the environment permitted. With the advancement of science, new innovations have been discovered that have greatly increased the shelf life and quality of food products. One in particular is called the Great Commission which consisted of Gods last words to his disciples stating, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere. Anyone who does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16:15-16). During this stage in time, traveling by land and sea was not as easy as it is today. The use of today’s technologies through science and development have greatly enhanced Christian evangelism throughout the nation with the inventions in the processing of foods. These new innovations have provided the ability to share Gods word at greater distances by sharing the gift of food. As far as Christian obligation is concerned, Gods word commands Christians to help the less fortunate (poor and disadvantaged). Proverbs 21:13 states “Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need.” This scripture tells us that we should work to meet the needs of the poor which is good stewardship. The advancement in technologies do play a vital role in evangelization and fulfilling the Christian obligation to the poor and disadvantage in that foods of all kind is distributed all over the world to the needy and hungry everywhere in the United States and other countries. Christian and evangelistic organizations such as, Feed the Children, Feeding America, Food for the Poor, and Save the Children sponsor shipment of foods to feed the hungry, but it also allows for the word of God to go forth. Missionaries and volunteers are stationed on the grounds where food is shipped and they help people prepare dry processed foods such as powdered and dehydrated eggs, freeze-dried foods and foods that need no refrigeration. During the preparation of food, voluteer missionaries and evangelists are in the position to minister the word of God as they eat the food that is provided.
