Yes, she would give him my wishes for his speedy recovery.” This small excerpt from The Chosen by Chaim Potok illustrates what kind of character Reuven Malter is. Reuven Malter is a Jewish boy who befriends w another Jewish boy, Daniel Saunders, even though their fathers do not agree with each other on what to believe as a Jew. In The Chosen Reuven has several notable attributes that make him fascinating to read about. Three attributes specifically make Reuven so unique and interesting. One of his most recognisable attributes is how analytical he is. He constantly notices small things about people. Going back just a few lines before the earlier quote, “I asked if I could speak to him, but she told me he was running a high fever and could not leave his bed to come to the phone. She sounded worried.” or going back a chapter before “Danny was tense and edgy, his face still masked by frustration, his mind obviously not on what we were discussing.” Reuven quickly connects parts of people's character and the events affecting them. …show more content…

He always listens Danny when he talks about psychology, even when he doesn’t know what Danny means. Reuven even suggests books for Danny to read about Judaism to help widen his view and understanding of it. Not only that, Reuven also calls Danny several times, and as stated in the first paragraph, “Yes, she would give him my wishes for his speedy
