The theme for our MMVS elocution this year is taken from the book of Revelations, chapter 13, verse 10 – “Call for the endurance and faith of the saints”. While preparing for the elocution, I realized that this verse was taken from the International Standard Version of the Bible. I checked other versions of the Holy Bible for this particular verse and realized that different versions had different words for this particular verse. Orthodox Study Bible used the words patience and the faith of the saints, New American Standard Bible used perseverance and the faith of the saints, while the New International Version used patient endurance and faithfulness.
While pondering over these verses, at first I thought that they were just different words

St. George is sometimes referred to as the “Great Martyr”. We have heard a lot of stories surrounding the slaying of the dragon by St. George but how many of us know why he was canonized a saint? As a young man, St. George joined the army of the Roman Emperor Diocletian but during the Diocletianic Persecution of Christians declared himself to be a Christian and tore down the Emperor's edict in defiance. Diocletian attempted to convert George, offering gifts of land, money, and slaves if he made a sacrifice to the Roman gods, but St. George stood steadfast in his faith. Following this, Saint George was tortured and dragged behind horses through the streets and yet he would not renounce his Christian beliefs. After various torture sessions, including laceration on a wheel of swords during which he was resuscitated three times, the saint was then beheaded. Faith is a channel of living—an assurance—that stretches from man to God, that His promises will never fail, even if sometimes we do not experience their fulfillment in our mortal existence. Endurance is standing strong in the faith of the gospel and true worship of God, in this time of trial and temptation.
