“Bloodflowers” is a short story by W.D. Valgardson that takes place on “Black Island.” The story starts off with the protagonist Danny landing on the island to work there as a school teacher. As the story continues on, the reader learns more about the islander’s weird superstitions and behaviours. Danny jokingly brings up a myth to one of the islanders about how in a different location, they would make someone king for a year and then kill them to chase away the bad luck. Little did Danny know that this would end up to be his fate as the story continued on, he became the king and got anything he wanted.

Therefore, when writing this with descriptive words, Greg is helping the audience overall be able to imagine themselves in his shoes looking forward at the body farm. In addition, Greg also uses a comparison to explain his descriptions of the body farm, which it helps the readers be able to relate to something else they’ve seen and put it into the image that he’s painting.

D.W. Griffith created a film in Broken Blossoms that really spoke to the society of the early 1900’s. America was going through an intense immigration period and many English white man were being xenophobic and Griffith is able to convey this through the mice en scene on screen. In the story Flowers for Algernon and in the movie Charly you can find many similarities and differences. An example of a similarity is the character Charly. Charly was a man with an intellectual disability, but with a desire to become smarter in both the film and story. An example of a difference in the story and film is Dr. Strauss. A huge dissimilarity is the fact that Dr. Strauss was a female in the movie version and a male in the story.

There are several major similarities and differences concerning characters in “Flowers For Algernon” by Daniel Keyes and Phantoms In the Snow by Kathleen Benner Duble. The characters being compared and contrasted are Noah from Phantoms in the Snow and Charlie Gordon from “Flowers For Algernon.” The first aspect of the similarities of the two characters is behavior, this is an aspect because both characters are good people, they never commit wrongdoings and they are always trying to do the right thing.

There are many young individuals that struggle with their own identity and individuality. Many of them have a hard time coping to figure out who they are and want to be. When a parent is raising a child they teach them their own set of morals and beliefs. In the short story “The Glass Roses” written by Alden Nowlan it shows the struggles of a fifteen year old boy who is trying to live up to his father’s expectations to make him proud.

The author uses literary devices like imagery, setting, and diction to convey her overall theme of coming of age because of the awareness of society's behavior. At the beguining of the story the author makes use of proper and necessary diction to create a euphoric and blissful aura. The character Myop “skipped lightly” while walker describes the harvests and how is causes “excited little tremors to run up her jaws.”. This is an introduction of the childlike innocence present in the main character.

The meaning of innocence lost and people growing up being changed by the harshness of reality. The author is able to use the imagery to show the difference between innocence and the loss of it. The story “The flowere” by Alice Walker is about a young girl named Mayop who sudden fall from innocence. Myop is happy and carefree as she skips around her family playing with the animals. She does not look beyond her free comfortable childhood. She decides to explore the woods as she had done many times with her mother in late autumn while gathering nuts. The setting of the story is in natural, outdoor surroundings, where most of the event occur.
Short stories tend to cover a plot, a setting, and a small quantity of characters in such a limited amount of time. Two examples of a short story would include “Cons” by Jess Walter and “Killings” by Andres Dubus. Even though these stories contain their own unique storyline with different personas, they both can relate to one another by looking at them from multiple perspectives. “Cons” and “Killings” are very much alike as they are told from a third person narration, both men learn that they are capable of doing terrible things, and two individuals view death as problem solver.
