“Let Kids Run Wild Online” is an article written by Danah Boyd. The article is mainly about an argument going back and forth on whether parents should or should not monitor the things their kid’s watch online. Many people can agree with those parents that say their kids should be monitored when online. Three reasons why parents should monitor their kids online are based on the kids being active, social media, and safety. Kids shouldn’t be on the internet they should be enjoying their childhood and not glued to cell phones, etc. Kids should be very active. They are young and shouldn’t be taught at a young age what the internet is. Many kids tend to get addicted to using the internet and tend to mess up their vision or make them become obese. Social media can lead to many things such as cyberbullying, a person catfishing, or invasion of privacy. Many people tend to use social media as a way to bully people. Which isn’t a good thing bullying shouldn't exist at all. Not only that but people also tend to use social media to make a fake account to talk to someone or pretend to be someone else. Which again can lead back to bullying. Many people tend to use social media as an invasion of privacy. People like to hack into other accounts that aren’t there accounts to look up personal information. Which isn’t right at all. Dannah Boyd mentions in the article that, “ Parents have projected their fears to violent strangers to cruel peers to pictures or words that could haunt them on Google for the rest of their lives.” So basically what Boyd is saying that all parents are trying to do is protect their children from bad people and how they are trying to prevent from their child getting bullied the rest of their lives.
