Quote:
" 'You sound bitter. If that's what you feel, why you are are you playing your numbers game? Keeping the racial ratio the same and all? Every time I ask you what you're doing it for, you talk about love. Loving Negroes' ... ' It is about love. What else but love? Can't I love what I criticize?' 'Yeah, but except for skin color, I can't tell the difference between what the what women want from us and what colored woman want. You say they all want our life, our living life. So if a colored woman is raped and killed, why do the Days rape and kill a white woman? Why worry about the colored woman at all?' "(223).
Once again Guitar tried to prove that he is killing people for “love” and tries to appeal to Milkman’s emotions. He is saying he loves the black people and that reason is good enough to kill the white. Milkman on the other hand is using simile to compare women to the white and black society. He says women to say that all the women are the same and they want the same thing disregarding their race. Every race has its flaws and if something happens to a colored woman, Guitar should go after white woman to keep the “ratio” equal. This sentence had used rhetorical questions, and simile to appeal to emotions and pathos.

Gold? or to find out the truth about his family? Milkman went to Virginia to find gold, but his trip then turns into a quest. He ends up finding about his family. His main goal was different but as he went on the trip, he decide to find more about his family.

Answer to the prompt:
This chapter starts with the fairy tale story of Hansel and Gretel. This opening is an effective opening because it foreshadows of when Milkman goes to Circe’s house and how her house looked like a witch’s house in fairy tales. He isn't afraid of the house anymore like when Hansel and Gretel weren't afraid anymore.
