Women all over the world have been struggling to gain equality for centuries. This struggle for rights has caused many people to rise up and demand change. Hillary Clinton delivered a speech to the U.N on September 5, in Beijing, China. This speech was written to change the social status of women. In order to gain more respect and rights for women, Hillary Clinton uses reasoning and explains how the world would be better with more rights for women, appeals emotionally about how much women do and how their work still isn’t valued, and finally, she appeals authoritatively when she demands change.

The first way Hillary Clinton used rhetoric was explaining to the audience how society would be a better place with more rights for women. In addition, she clearly states the effect of freeing women of daily struggles, “If women are free from violence, their families will flourish. And when families flourish, communities and nations do as well.” This creates a logical appeal for the audience. Hillary is telling everyone that women are equal and deserve the same rights that all men get. She used this approach to make it known that this is how it should be. Along with this she inspires us to make change with this quote, “Let us heed that call so we can create a world in which every woman is treated with respect and dignity.” This is another example of an authoritative appeal.
