Caleb Merriken Ms. Laye Writer’s Workshop 24 February 2023 In December 2022, Raphael Warnock made the political ad, "Still Walking," showing why Herschel Walker is incapable of being a senator. Raphael Warnock calls Herschel Walker a pathological liar and proceeds to open old wounds and talk about his previous actions. He is also walking a small puppy and is talking about how he remembers when a runoff happened recently. By calling him a pathological liar he almost makes everyone do a double take and reconsider their evaluations of Herschel Walker. In general he has a kind old man's tone, while also giving a gentle father’s reproval for messing up, meaning to address both the audience and Herschel Walker himself. It was absolutely a professionally made ad, using ethos, pathos, diction, apostrophe, charged language, and ad hominem, to disprove Herschel Walker's integrity and his honesty by using his previous actions against him. Raphael Warnock had some very professional uses of ethos in his advertisement, he is constantly going for the jugular in this ad, taking away Herschel Walker’s credibility as a person in general. This is put on display when throughout the whole advertisement he is walking a small dog/puppy. At the very end of the ad the dog jumps on to his lap and he is chuckling while petting the dog. This is giving us a feeling that he is something akin to a kind old man, someone you would see as a gentle grandpa. He also makes us go “Aw” when we see the dog, for the puppy was intentionally chosen for its cuteness, showing his knowledge of human reactions. This ad leads us to believe that he will secure and hold Georgia with the same comfort and care that he gives to the dog. This is also an excellent use of pathos, it is executed very well, for it leads us to have a positive view of Raphael Warnock making us think he is gentle, kind, and
