Rhetorical Analysis
Bernard Roth is the Rodney H. Adams Professor of Engineering and the Academic Director of the Haso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school) at Stanford University. He is a leading expert in kinematics, the science of motion, and is one of the world’s pioneers in the area of robotics. Roth is also the primary developer of the concept of the Creativity workshop. In The Achievement Habit, Bernard Roth uses Aristotle’s Rhetorical Triangle effectively through his use of ethos, pathos, and logos in Chapter One entitled “Nothing is What You Think it is.”

Experimenters have found statistical evidence that, for instance, if you ask people to be voters, you get more voter turnout than, if you ask people to vote (28). Roth logic makes since to college students because of the credible source he uses. Logos also helps with his argument of who controls your brain, the primary function which is the limbic-reaction or the secondary, being brainwashed by friends and family (Roth 32). Harvard University neurology professor Rudy Tanzi recommends a four-step process to handle situations in which we are in the thrall of a limbic abduction: stop yourself from doing what your initial reaction dictated, take a deep breath, become aware of how you are feeling, and recall past event that gave you a feeling of happiness and peace. Although his argument is strong in The Achievement Habit chapter one, Roth is incorrect on his thought of not recommending Mike if had been asked. Guide to critical analysis states opinions are statements that cannot be proved true or false because they express a person’s thoughts, beliefs, feelings, or estimates (Intelligent Machines vs. Human Intelligence
