In Friday Night Lights, H.G. Bissinger appeals to his audience’s sense of emotions in order to persuade his readers that the obsession with high school football negatively affects everyone’s future in Odessa, Texas. Bissinger relies on emotional appeals by employing devices and techniques to present individuals’ personal stories and experiences. His searing portrayal of Odessa, and its Permian High School football team, exposes the side of sports that severely impacts the people living in this society. Bissinger shows the long term consequences of this delusion on the people who are directly and indirectly associated with Permian football. This demonstrate how detrimental the burdens are for the children, which touches the reader’s heart.
Most people say life is extremely valuable and every day is a gift. Personally, I did not believe life was very valuable until I was medicated. With my mental illnesses every day of my life is a struggle, and I have to take medications to have normal brain functions like most people. Before I started taking Zoloft I thought it would be a magic pill that would immediately cure me and make me happy. The first few weeks I honestly thought I was dying, but I believed my doctors when they said the benefits would outweigh the side effects.
The film documentary Paris is Burning is a complex film portraying the lives of African American men who are gay and transgender. The characters are Dorian Corey, Pepper LaBeija, Venus Xtravaganza, Willi Ninja, Octavia St. Laurent, Freddie Pendavis, and several others. This film focuses on how these men support each other and find happiness by embracing their culture. The film uses rhetorical strategies, such as pathos to allow the audience to respond emotionally, logos because this is a documentary about the lives of real men who are rejected by society, and ethos the integrity of this film comes from the whole film crew and the director Jennie Livingston who is openly lesbian (Clark). Livingston made a film that showed the audience a community that has its own cultural norms who are outlawed by everyone but themselves.
Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
Through flashback, Amir recalls the story told to him of Hassan’s birth. Recalling this memory, Amir makes aware that he and Hassan nursed from the same woman and describes the “ kinship that not even time could break” that they held. Later he goes on to share each of their first words, Amir’s being “Baba” and Hassan’s being “Amir”. A baby’s first word tends to be the one the child is most closely associated with, and through this, one can observe the person to whom each child would look up to. Amir goes on to spend his childhood simply trying to be good enough, trying to be the child Baba would be proud of.
As black women always conform under patriarchal principles, women are generally silenced and deprived of rights because men are entitled to control everything. Women are silenced in a way that they lose their confidence and hesitate to speak up due to the norms present in the society they live in. Hence, even if women have the confidence to try to speak, men wouldn’t bother to listen since men ought to believe that they are superior to women. In addition to that, women often live in a life cycle of repetitions due to patriarchal principles since women are established to fulfill the roles the society had given them. It is evidenced by Celie as she struggles to survive and to define oneself apart from the controlling, manipulative, and abusive men in her life.
A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, surrounds the cities of Paris and London during the late 1700’s. The novel takes place during the French Revolution, a period of social and political upheaval in France and England. While peasants died in the streets from hunger, aristocrats had more money and power than they knew what to do with. A Tale of Two Cities describes, in detail, the poverty of the time period, as well as the struggle of a people able to overcome oppression. The novel is largely based off of occurrences Dickens experienced during his childhood.
In this passage, Charlotte Perkins Gilman highlights the theme that women must use their intellect or go mad through the use of literary qualities and writing styles. Gilman also uses the use of capital letters to portray the decline in the narrators’ sanity. This shows the decline in the sanity of a person because the words in all-caps is shown as abrupt, loud remarks. Gilman uses this method multiple times in her short story and this method was used twice in this passage. When the narrator wrote, “LOOKING AT THE PAPER!”, the major decline in her mental health was shown.
Twelve Angry Men is in many ways a love letter to the American legal justice system. We find here eleven men, swayed to conclusions by prejudices, past experience, and short-sightedness, challenged by one man who holds himself and his peers to a higher standard of justice, demanding that this marginalized member of society be given his due process. We see the jurors struggle between the two, seemingly conflicting, purposes of a jury, to punish the guilty and to protect the innocent. It proves, however, that the logic of the American trial-by-jury system does work.
Sentence Assessment Task Rhetorical Analysis: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” (Austen) Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen) Austen’s famous statement on marriage and equality continues to resonate in modern society. In comparison to today, the Victorian era significantly suppressed women’s rights (Hughes). However, Austen juxtaposes that idea by stating that it is the man, no matter how wealthy, who ‘must be in want of a wife.’
Rhetorical Analysis The speech that was delivered by William Wallace in the movie Braveheart, was meant to persuade the soldiers to fight for their freedom even though they were grossly out-numbered by the English. In the early 13th century the Scottish and the English were fighting in the First Wars of Independence. This was the result of the death of King Alexander III in 1286, when he left no heir to the throne. King Edward I of England was successful in conquering this land an was trying to rid Scotland of their clans.

The story follows an anonymous unnamed narrator. He is the typical working class American man stuck into a cycle of working excruciatingly long days under a capitalist society. The stress that is involved with falling victim to the rat race idolized by Americans has caused the narrator to suffer from insomnia. After meeting Tyler Durdan, together, the narrator and him decide to begin a fight club with means to abolish the idea of masculinity and consumerism
In his review of the movie Hotel Transylvania, Ben Kendrick expresses his opinion of the film through different rhetorical strategies. The language used throughout the review support the writer’s judgement that Hotel Transylvania is a “poorly stitched together” kid’s movie. Kendrick is disappointed that Genndy Tartakovsy, the director of Hotel Transylvania and well known for directing Clone Troopers, didn’t deliver an animated fun heart-warming film for all ages. He uses words and phrases such as “underwhelming,” “egregious,” and “awkwardly proportioned” to support this position. Ben Kendrick also uses appeals to logic, or logos, to advocate his conclusion that Hotel Transylvania is a gimmicky children’s movie.
This television documentary covers one of the deadliest civil wars in the Sub-Saharan Africa in a country called Liberia. During this civil war, almost nearly the entire country war turned apart and many children including women and innocent citizens displaced and some became refugees in neighboring countries. The mastermind behind this civil war and crimes against humanity was the Liberian war lord Charles Taylor whose brutal regime, greed and hunger for, gold, diamond, power made him so wicked and evil that he was ready to kill as many Liberians as he can in order to hang on to power. The civil war hit the magnitude that interfaith union and prayers by mostly Christian and Muslim worshippers plus human rights activists mostly women cried
