Wambach’s Use of Rhetorical Strategies Mary Abigail Wambach, known as Abby Wambach, is a soccer icon, a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, and a women’s equal rights activist. On May 21, 2018 Abby Wambach stood in front of Barnard College’s 2018 graduating class and gave an empowering speech. This speech told women they should stand up for themselves and stick together for equal rights and pay. She wanted to motivate and inspire these graduates to believe in their self worth and the women around them. To get her point across, Wambach uses pathos, ethos, and logos through rhetorical devices effectively to do this; however, there are some fallacies in the speech as well. .
In Reagan’s eulogy Thatcher uses pathos to unite herself with the audience, through the mutual feelings of grief and sorrow over losing a friend. In the opening lines of the eulogy Thatcher creates pathos by using diction. In lines one and two Thatcher said that a “Great President… Great American… Great man….” has died. Her choice of using the word great instead of good or any other adjective, effects the audience by showing what kind of man Reagan was. Since death is a universally known topic, it is safe to say that everybody has experienced the pain of losing a great person to death.
J.F Kennedy, the president of United States wanted to put the first Americans to the moon-America exploring the moon, so he directed his speech to the people of taxes and Rice University to promote his space exploration program that will help America to be the first country to explore the moon. He believes that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. Throughout J.F Kennedy's speech, the speaker makes effective use of evidence, reasoning, rhetorical elements, and rhetorical devices that together form his argument to gain people support for his space exploration program. J.F Kennedy was trying to prove his point of view by giving examples and using a lot of Rhetorical devices and appeals that would grab the reader's attention
In an eulogy to former President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, former prime minister of Great Britain, addresses a speech in honor of Reagan. Throughout the eulogy, Thatcher informs Americans all of the amazing work Reagan did during his presidency and how he is a great person. Using examples of the work Reagan did, Thatcher states acknowledges those ideas in order to keep his legacy alive. Thatcher opens and closes her eulogy by directly addresses it to the American citizens in a warm and proud tone.
What makes a speech effective? Using rhetoric, a person can appeal to others emotion and logic to persuade a person into doing a desired action. They can encourage a person into success or they can discourage a person into wanting to prove others wrong. Within the incisive “Polly Baker’s speech,” Benjamin Franklin satirizes the patriarchal structure of the judicial system that unfairly judges women. Franklin utilizes a sardonic persona of a “poor” 18th century women being “persecuted for the fifth time, for having a bastard child” who only wants her “fine remitted.” Through his judicious use of hyperbole and his persona’s rhetorical conditional statements, Franklin produces a sarcastic tone in Polly Baker’s speech and ridicules the “great men” who enforce the institutionalized bias against women under the rule of law.
Her use of diction to describe her subjects is what motivates them to fight against the Spanish invaders. Elizabeth describes her subjects as being “faithful,” “loving,” and “loyal” and it is what allows them to see her as a kind and clement ruler. Her diction in her descriptions of her soldiers is what allows them to see her as a monarch who is full of compassion for her soldiers going to war and uncertain of the outcome. Adversely, Elizabeth uses the diction of warfare to describe the invaders. She describes the invaders’ actions as “treacher[ous],” calls them “enem[ies],” and uses “invade,'' a word with a negative denotation; Elizabeth follows the teachings of Machiavelli, who once advised rulers to be manipulative yet sly enough to “disguise this characteristic” (Machiavelli, 6).
In her speech, the Queen recounts memories involving Diana’s life and her sons. Queen Elizabeth commits a logical fallacy when she uses appeal to pathos in order to gain rhetoric but remains ineffective. Queen Elizabeth’s visual appearance takes away from her appeal to pathos. She appears on television looking emotionless and not at all mournful of Diana’s death. On paper Queen Elizabeth’s speech appeals to pathos but, when given on television, her appearance causes her appeal to pathos to drop.

When Abigail writes this letter she is trying to prove that going on this voyage will have great positive effects on his life. She is effective in proving her point because she uses Ethos, Logos, Pathos, and other rhetorical strategies convey her message and meaning to him.
Rhetorical Analysis Convincing people of something or to do something is not an easy task but Patrick Henry's “Speech to the Second Virginia Convention” shows how well someone can persuade people when they trust you, appeal to their emotions, or back up what you are saying with facts...ethos, pathos, and logos. The purpose of this speech is to persuade the colonist to fight against the british. Patrick is talking to the members of the virginia convention and what they need to do to become free. Patrick Henry uses ethos to help convince the audience that he knows what he's talking about and how they should trust him.
In the “Speech to the Virginia Convention” given by Patrick Henry to the President in 1775, asserts that the colonists should not be trying to negotiate with the British. His purpose was to convince the audience that they should not be trying to befriend the people of Great Britain rather that they should make Great Britain their foe. Henry uses his speech to appeal to both the President and the colonist through the use of figurative language, tone, and syntax. Patrick Henry’s use of diction, a persuasive and forceful tone, appeal to ethos and pathos, as well as various syntactical elements in his “Speech to the Virginia Convention” shows that the colonists should be fighting to break away from the British monarchy rather than negotiate terms to try and stay under their clutches.
For a very long time, the voting rights of the citizens have been a problem in the US. It started out with only men with land being able to vote, and then expanded to white men, and then to all men. However, women were never in the situation, they were disregarded and believed to not be worthy enough to have the same rights as men.
