Richard a kid who made a mistake, then having his freedom taken away is the worst thing that can happen to a human. When fairness isn’t administered it is vanished from the person. In Richard’s case he was not given the chance to speak for his liberty. He was shut down completely with no knowledge of what was happening. The system is like a beast if you don’t watch out for it and you don’t know its scams it will certainly capture you. And when that happens to anyone it’s the worst, that’s what happened to Richard. As long as Richard was given the correct guidance to what a jury trial is and what the consequences of going through such a trial he would have done great. A little respect in the court room goes a long way. Addressing the judge as “your honor” and not by last name is best. Being polite to the opponent would’ve helped Richard too. Respecting procedures and people in the court room would have shown that he was a smart kid. With a good lawyer Richard would have been told not to interrupt and to sit quietly. Even if the opponent or the judge imply that Richard isn’t saying the truth. The point is to acknowledge was is happening at every moment that Richard was in the court room being accused of his mother’s murder. Catching the opponent’s mistakes would be a key to Richards’s trial. When Richards defense lawyer had the chance to speak for him that’s when it’s time to prove Richards innocence. And to show that Richards mind wasn’t fully there at the moment of his mother’s
