California is known for their residential superstars, shopping, surfers, and the one and only Hollywood. It seems like a pretty easy lifestyle for the majority of their inhabitants, but what happens under the radar of fame and fortune makes California seem like a different world. Living in Los Angeles, California in 1985 would have meant not feeling safe in your own home, insomnia, and fear running amok throughout the city because of one single man that became the actual boogey man, The Night Stalker. The Night Stalker, Richard Ramirez, was born on February 29, 1960 in El Paso, Texas. He was a regular kid until something in his life changed. It’s hard to not think that if he had been in a good home with good friends he would have ended up as a valuable member of society. Ramirez was influenced by drugs, his murderous uncle, and music to become a Satanist. Because he worshiped the devil, his crimes were full of evil intent that made the court, the news, and his victims far from pity. The Night Stalker murdered fourteen people and had thirty-one other felonies from his murder, rape, and robbery spree. To sum all of this up, Richard Ramirez was going to be in prison for a very long time. Throughout the trials leading up to his death sentence, Ramirez threw every satanic insult, curse of some sort, or confession he could think of at the courtroom members except for his cult of course. In prison, Ramirez got married and had many admirers visiting him every chance they got. He was basically a superstar for them. On June 7th, 2013 Richard Ramirez died of lymphoma in the hospital waiting on the state of California’s death sentence. So many other people were waiting in prison before him that he waited twenty-four years before dying and still waiting on his death
