The right to bear arms has been a controversial issue ever since James Madison established it as the second amendment of the constitution. The second amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (US Const. amend. II). Those in favor of the second amendment, believe that arms are used for protection, dangerous situations, and sports.
Updating the Amendment 2.0 The right to bear arms has been a favoured constitutional law since its establishment in 1791, but as more gun related violence and accidents occur, there has been increasing debate on whether or not guns should be banned in the US altogether, and if not, what regulations should be required for the purchase and handling of them. While guns should not be completely banned from the country, the rules and regulations of gun laws should be tightened. In the 2nd amendment, it clearly states that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” While this statement still holds true, the evolution of firearms and how they have become more dangerous throughout the years is a clear sign of why the laws should be changed.
The fear of crime or of being a victim of violence can motivate some people into carrying guns. People believe that carrying a gun can help them protect themselves and their loved ones when they are in a serious life or death situation. In other cases people carry guns for enjoyment, the look of being fearless or ¨trying to act cool¨. Many who have guns aren't using them for the correct reasons. Many don't understand the true value of life until they are put behind bars for committing murder or those who participate in gangs. Another quote that stood out to me was when Eddie stated ¨He worried constantly about what lay ahead once he got out.
They sleep with it, carry it to the shower with them, and have one hidden in a seat cushion, and taped under a desk or table. They may be paranoid, as well, but not scared of their firearm and yet are not trained very well they only think they are. They think a handgun is like a camera where you point and shoot and anyone can do it. You will never see a trained shooter pull his sidearm unless he plans to shoot someone or something.
Should an american who has the right credentials have the right to bear arms? Should the be able to have a concealed weapon and or be able to open carry a rifle or other firearm? The answer is yes to both of these questions the average american who can take and pass a background check given by the government. The right to carry a firearm whether it is open carry or concealed carry has been in effect ever since the signing of the declaration of independence in 1776. This has been a great asset to americans, one the second amendment gives americans a sense of security, it also helps people with self defence and also the protection of their family.

Proponents of more gun control laws believe that the Second Amendment was intended exclusively for militias, that gun restrictions have always existed, and that gun regulations would prevent criminals from possessing firearms. However, Opponents claim that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to own guns, that guns are needed for self-defense, and that gun ownership helps to dissuade crime. Because of this obvious difference, proponents of stricter firearm regulation demand more laws to help prevent mass shooting, and want reform in the area of background checks. Meanwhile, opponents of gun laws often accuse the proponents of manipulating a mass tragedy in order to further strengthen their fight. Gun ownership has been a tradition within the united states since before the country itself was formed.
For advocates of the second amendment, the right to bear arms applies to all Americans for self-protection against dangerous criminals. Criminals will always have access to weapons, therefore citizens need self-protection using firearms. John Lott, in “More Guns, Less Crime,” explains that crime fell by 10 percent in Texas in the year after a law had passed letting citizens carry weapons ( Martin 10). This evidence shows that if more citizens were armed for example, the citizens in Texas, less crime would occur in America. Although those in favor of the second amendment believe that arms are used in self-protection, they also believe it is an individual right and oppose strict gun control laws as

That is a perfect example of why some people feel the need to keep a gun or firearm in their homes, they are aware of the murder rate due to the media. People do not want to take a chance on someone hurting them so they feel the need to have one, witch is understandable because the murder rate has raised in the last 5 years there. You don’t want your firearm to not be able to be used to its maximum strength at a time if someone was to try to harm you, you would want it to be able to be used at its maximum strength to be able to protect you from harm.
They fear that they will not be able to protect themselves on a daily basis, or in a worse case scenario, protect themselves if the government happened to turn on citizens of the country. Since the begining of America, the Founding Fathers wrote the strong-standing Bill of Rights with amendments to protect the country that had just recently won their freedom, but one amendment has been the top theme of controversies for centuries. Gun laws offend the Bill of Rights in so many ways and they prove ineffective. Gun Laws are relevant due to thousands of deaths and self-protection. The argument goes on but without guns there is militia, one of the main intents of the Second Amendment. These simple rules can reduce deaths, proven by millions of influential people.
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
The biggest question remains, should civilians be allowed to carry guns. Many argue No, others yes. My opinion is that they should carry guns on them at all times. Reason being is because we might need to defend ourselves against tyranny one day. Many criminals are free on the streets and you never know when you might bump into one.
