They were officially separated in 1729; however, long before that the two colonies followed different paths. South Carolina’s way led her down the steep slope of instability and through the forests of slavery and judgment. Despite this she came out alive and well on the other side.
The Thoughts Behind Old Hickory Andrew Jackson is possibly one of our most controversial presidents. While he did many things to help move forth the political process and helped make important decisions regarding nullification, he also further disenfranchised Native Americans as well as he was responsible for destruction of the National Bank. In order to understand why he did some of these things, one must look back at his past and the things he did. One of the first things Jackson did when he took office was allowed the people to enter the White House after his inauguration.
David Berkowitz, also known as Son of Sam and the “.44 Caliber Killer”, is an American serial killer who, in New York City, murdered six people and injured seven. The Son of Sam killings –as his murder spree incident was called- began on July 29, 1976 with Donna Lauria and Jody Valenti who were both sitting in their car when a man peered into their window and fired multiple times at them. Jody survived the rainfall of bullets but her partner was not so lucky. Couple of months later, the police noted that this could be the work of a serial killer. David Berkowitz, whose birth name was David Falco, was adopted by Nat and Pearl Berkowitz a couple of days after his birth day, on June 1, 1953.
In Chapter 1 of The Wilmington Ten, Janken wrote about how students from all-white high schools could have been dispersed into all-black high schools in Wilmington, North Carolina in order to help integrate the school system. Instead, only students from the all black high school were dispersed into two different all-white high schools because the community good was defined by what was acceptable to whites. This is relevant to the course theme of critically assessing the significance of events in North Carolina’s African American history because “white privilege” is very prominent in today’s time. World War 1 was one of the most inclusive and deadly wars in history. The war brought a series if new machines and techniques to warfare. World War 1 was known as the war to end all wars but, sadly it didn’t. The treaty of versailles was not a good plan to ensure peace and prosperity in Europe. The Treaty of Versailles was not a good plan for European peace because all parties that signed the treaty did not agree with it, Germany was forced to pay majority of the debt, and the economy in Europe plumited.
The writings by Washington seemed as though only the head females were the ones that had the darker personalities. In Rip Van Winkle, Irving tells the readers that a great deal of the woman wanted to have Rip. The difference between these women and the woman he was already married to was that these other women were a great deal nicer, and would not abuse Rip the way she did. Moreover, after thinking for a while, I had a realization that maybe Washington had not had the greatest relationships with women. He might have always had the abusive wife who always found a way to yell at him, accordingly having seen all of these other women being extraordinarily kind to anybody around them.

In the Carolinas there are a few possible reasons why they would make it illegal for slaves. One reason would be that by being illiterate, slave owners can keep their slaves ignorant and simple minded. With simple minds, slaves would not question their owners as much when concerning their work and living conditions. If they were educated, they could understand their cruel punishment and learn about when slaves were given protection from abusive treatment. But by eliminating this factor, slave owners can hold on to their slaves with fewer troubles.

Irving’s Character Alikeness Biographical and short story writer, Washington Irving is known for his works “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” However, he does have additional short stories. Between 1819 and 1820, Washington Irving published The Sketch Book, which was made up of approximately 30 short stories. Within those works were characters such as John Bull, Rip Van Winkle, Ichabod Crane, the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow, and several other unnamed characters. Now, the nameless characters in Washington Irving’s tales had just as deep impacts in their stories as named characters; from those deep impacts came about noticeable character resemblances between those characters.
In 1887, Thomas Nelson Page published In Ole Virginia, a collection of short stories about the Old South, focusing on the time period immediately pre- and post-American Civil War. Throughout literature, the Antebellum South has been depicted as a place of sprawling plantations, Southern belles, chivalry, and glamorous balls. Following the Civil War, the South is often still depicted as quaint small towns characterized by Southern hospitality, but is far less romanticized. In his stories, Thomas Nelson Page supports these notions, and attempts to illustrate both the glory of the Old South as well as the view that the Civil War was ultimately an unnecessary bloodbath.

The Great American Dream is an ideal that states through hard work and dedication, every American citizen has the opportunity to accomplish personal goals and achieve success. The amount of effort put forth to obtain these goals, and achieve individualized success is decided upon by that citizen. Some of the more common goals and successes are ownership of property, obtaining wealth, enjoying liberties, experiencing patriotism, and raising a family. In “Rip Van Winkle” by Washington Irving, the main character Rip is able to obtain the Great American Dream through laziness. Washington Irving satirizes the Great American Dream in his short story, and in this paper I will analyze how “Rip Van Winkle” can be read as a parody.
Though the history of the South often catches the attention of conversation, it is not as likely for the poor folk of the South to be mentioned and thought about. Those who were considered to be the construction of the South are mostly the affluent, but it should not be forgotten that those who were poor had a story as well. There was a struggle they faced just as real as the great lives the rich held. Though the poor were overlooked most days, they truly helped build America to what it is today. Without them, America wouldn’t have the depth it has today.
