At the end of summer in 1914, the ancient monarchies of Austria, Russia and Germany submerged their countries into a very bloody war, which then also engulfed Europe. The Statistics of the war is crucial, more than three-million men died and more than nine-million men were wounded, and every country that took part in the war, had lost its form of government. One of them is Russia, it collapsed so critically and catastrophically that the ensuing consequences still echo in today’s world. The Russian army during World War I, was known as a large ill-equipped force. But in 1914 the Russian army were well trained and well equipped. The only problems about the Russian forces were that their inadequate transportation infrastructure, which wasn’t able to supply and maintain Russian field formations. As for their weapons, they used standard Russian field guns such as a, 76.2 mm and 122 mm. Their amounts of weapons were the same as the Germans and superior to Austrians. The …show more content…

A couple of days later, general Alexander Samsonov’s second army stormed around the right flank of the Germans Eighth Army ruled by a general Freidrich von Prittwitz. He was pretty sure, that he couldn’t fight against the two armies, so him and his army retreated to the Vistula River, leaving most of East Prussia including Königsberg. He was immediately replaced by Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg and his new chief Erich Ludendorf. The staff at the East Prussian Army Headquarters, they planned a counteroffensive against the Russians. By August 27, they already had everything planned, but have fallen to Samsonov’s weak army conquering in two flanks, perfectly surrounding them.
