Sexual Assault Rape is unwanted sexual activities that are forced upon another person. This has to be an act upon an un-consenting individual. With recent reforms in the law sexual assault is now a broad umbrella with many acts being considered assault such as phone calls, marital rape, and stranger rape. One in six American women have been raped or a victim of attempted rape (Cleveland Rape Crisis Center). Many studies have been done to evaluate the reasons and trend behind assault to help the victim and to prevent the rise of assault that occurs. These acts can range from being non-violent acts to violent acts (Postmus, 2008). With these recent reforms in the law it has created a blurred line between rape and assault.

There are many ethical views that are extreme and leave many people sickened by the acts that are occurring within their communities, cities, towns, and villages. With these ethical views being so extreme hinder the social worker profession. Within this profession there is a time that a social worker can work with either the victim or the victimizer. This can affect the social worker by drawing on both their personal and professional views. When working with the victim and the victimizer a worker must keep their thoughts, feelings, and ideas separate. To put this into perspective, there is an example such as a social worker taking on a case with a victimizer, this worker may be against sexual assault in all of its meanings may have to step back and put her personal views behind and focus on their professional views to allow them to be judgment free and unbiased to their client. Working with this population is demanding for all social workers everywhere. These cultures could vary from different ethnicities, substance abusers, athletes, wealth, the poor, and mentally ill. The different ethnicities are contributors to sexual assault for multiple reasons. One of the reasons being their low respect for women. They believe that they are inferior to these women and that they deserve it. Another reason ethnicities are looked at for sexually assaulting another is discrimination. Either way you look at it, a black man assaulting a white woman or vice versa. They use this as a form of hatred towards the opposite sex and race. They also use rape as a punishment for the opposite ethnicities. There are then the substance abusers. These individuals are recognized for partaking in sexual assault because they are accustomed to their bad habits or the presence of the drug or alcohol in their system. It is also explained by these drug and addicts and alcoholics not being in the right state of mind at the time of the assault or when trying to avoid committing this horrendous crime towards another human being. Moving on, athletes influence this topic due to their ego and their aggression and most times chose to act before they think.
