Venezuela and United States “To survive in peace and harmony, united and strong, we must have one people, one nation, one flag.’’ This quotation of Pauline Hanson defines how important values are, not just for one person or one community, but for a whole nation. On one hand, we have Venezuelan people, and on the other hand American people. Even though these two countries have similarities in the weather and food, there are three major differences between Venezuela and United States.
With westward expansion becoming more popular, and with people thinking it was their manifest destiny-or God given fate to go west, populations increased. But conflict arose with our southern neighbor Mexico. This conflict could’ve been prevented, or resolved, but instead it grew worse. This conflict is often called the “Mexican American War” but in Mexico it is called the “US Invasion”. On April 24th, 1836 63 American men and officers went just south of the Rio Grande when Mexico attacked.
The Mexican-American War was the first war to be fought mostly on foreign soil. During this period, the newly formed the United States was eagerly seeking to expand their territory towards the west. When failed attempts to obtain lands by purchasing them from Mexico for the price of $30,000,000 dollars. The U.S. government felt there was little hope of gaining these territories by peaceful means, a war was inevitable. Mexico was still bitter despite Texas gaining their independence in 1836, voluntarily selling their lands to the United States was not an option.
The Spanish Conquistadors had the advantage over the Aztecs in many ways. One way they used was using allies against thee Aztecs. The Aztecs was a tribute empire, where they required
Time and history has shown us over and over again the power of words. Great leaders of societies obtain that magnetic pull with words that enable them to reach masses of people throughout the world. It’s all determined by how the speaker or the writer tries to convey his or her message and what they hope to achieve with their words. The Cuban writer, José Martí evidently establishes his political views through his written piece, “Our America”. Martí’s written work is manifested by his political choice of words and distinct approaches that speak to both his fellow Cubans and the higher nation that is the United Sates throughout his essay.
The Aztec’s culture was focused on religion while the Inca’s was mostly about warfare and buildings. The Inca also had a language that consisted entirely of knots. Spanish forces landed in Veracruz in 1519. The group went to Tenochtitlán and gained support from city-states along the way.
The struggle between insiders and outsiders has been a central thread in American history. One could point out that it stems from the history of the Americas as a place where a man could win power, wealth, and glory, even if he had to steal it from someone. The United States is also rare as one of the first places where a rebellion actually worked. Outsiders rising up to try to improve their lot in life has been common. But they rarely if ever worked.
The Mexican War, commonly known as the Mexican-American War, was the war fought by the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848. Controversy surrounding the annexation of Texas to the United States predicted war with Mexico and swayed the votes of candidates during the Election of 1844. During the Election of 1844, James K. Polk, an advocate for expansionism, campaigned against Henry Clay, who was in opposition of adding Texas to the Union. Clay lost many of his voters when he tried to encourage the voters to rally against Texas’ annexation. Eventually, Polk assumed the role as president after defeating Clay in the rather close Election of 1844.
The Aztecs’ religion is what got them into the most trouble. They sacrificed humans for their Gods, which was wrong in the Spaniards’ eyes (and mine too). They also were very superstitious .The Aztecs may have won the battle against the Spaniards if they too had advanced weaponry and battle tactics. The Aztecs and the Spaniards were vastly different people, however they had similarities.
They both put a very high value on family. Grandparents, parents, and children may all live in the same home together in some situations, and if they don’t, they visit one another very often. This makes the bonds within the family very strong (Spanish Culture). In Hispanic culture, the oldest male within the family has the greatest power and they usually make the major health and wealth decisions for the family. Males are taught at a young age that honor, dignity, respect, courage, and protecting one’s name are qualities that are all very important to acquire.
The Mexican American society is rich with culture, traditions, folklore, and religion. These major influences are especially seen in the Los Angeles area. This area is rich in music, food, and customs of the Mexican culture. Here is where the majority of the Spanish language is spoken.
The Mexican culture is very diverse and has a long-standing history. With its many different languages and religions it a melting pot of a country. Being the 14th largest country it has many different influences across the world with its bright and vibrant art and products. Mexico also has a big tie to the church with all of the religious influences, which keeps it a tight nit with family values. Overall Mexico is a wonderful country with a rich
It is true that Mexicans and Spaniards share similarities concerning language and culture, but there are far too many regional variations that make linguists say that Mexican Spanish qualifies to be a separate language, nonetheless, what does differ is that Spain’s political system is a Democratic government with an ‘international’ currency. Additionally, one can find a lot of Spanish influence in Mexican culture such as bull fights, foods like Spanish rice, and yes, Catholic Religion. Yet, it is easy to see the ancestral differences between Mexican and Spanish people due to their many different historical characteristics. Today, one difference between the two is that the Mexican political system is a close copy of the US system—at least on paper. However, the Mexican constitution provides only for a Federal system, unlike in Spain who recently has a revolution less than fifty years ago.
A quote which describes this best is one by Uruguayan journalist Eduardo Galeano “Latin America is the region of open veins. Everything, from the discovery until our times, has always been transmuted into European— or later United States— capital, and as such has accumulated in distant centers of power. Everything: the soil, its fruits and its mineral-rich depths, the people and their capacity to work and to consume, natural resources and human resources” (Galeano,
