Robert E Lee’s life before the war shaped him for military greatness. Robert E Lee was born in Stratford Hall Virginia on January 19, 1807 to Revolutionary war hero Henry Light-Horse Harry Lee (Civil War trust). It was thought that he had military honor in his future. His family had some financial issues, this caused his father to get sent to the West Indies. Robert got into the United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated in 1829 (Civil War Trust). Furthermore from 1852 to 1855, Robert was a Superintendent at West Point, because of that he was responsible for teaching the people that he would lead one day, those who don 't like him would serve against him in the Civil War. There were 8 key battles that Robert E Lee fought in, they all include the Battle of Antietam in September 16-18,1862, Battle of Fredericksburg in December 11-15, 1862, Battle of Chancellorsville in April 30-May 6,1863, Battle of Gettysburg in July 1-3, 1863 this battle pushed the union ahead,Battle of the Wilderness in May 5, 1864, Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse in May 8-21, 1864, Battle of Deep Bottom in August 13-20,1864, and Battle of Appomattox Court House in April 9, 1865.
