Pages of the Past
Within the ink print of freshly written words on fragile, delicate paper, the poet suddenly decides the future of the upcoming story of his poem, creating an expanding universe for all, which he can produce with only his sharp mind as a literary tool. Robert Frost was an inspiring poet in the 1960’s who quickly grew popular as his poems roamed throughout the world and set other’s hearts aflame. His name is remembered throughout history mainly because he differed from other famous poets and generated phrases of questioning and searching that mildly corresponded to universal themes. Unlike other poets, Robert Frost actually avoided artificial and unoriginal poetic diction, and instead had drawn his language firstly from the vernacular, employing an accent of a soft spoken New Englander (Poetryfoundation.org). Not to mention that he wanted to restore to writing the “sentence sounds that underlie the words” and the “vocal gesture” that refines meaning, and what he achieved in his own poetry was more complex than mere imitation of a New England farmer (Poetryfoundation.org). Frost had been willing to risk stepping over the troubled waters of normal poetic tones and the usual format of poems, and was willingly determined to become someone recognizable in this world. For the celebration of his first publication, Robert Frost privately printed and produced a book of six poems, as well as receiving two copies of Twilight for himself and his fiancee, Elinor (Poetryfoundation.org). The volume Frost had written, New Hampshire, had won his first Pulitzer Prize, and, according to Louis Untermeyer, he described the volume saying that it “pretends to be nothing but a long poem with notes and grace notes” (Poetryfoundation.org). As humble as he is, Frost gladly accepted awards for his published works and, though he wasn’t smothered with extraordinary prizes, he still had been welcomed with plenty of rewards.
