When discussion on climate change comes up, people tend to ignore it or groan about it. Some people feel that it's their fault and worry about it. Every person has their own perspective on climate change, David Roberts in his “Climate change is Simple” video talks about climate and temperature not being stable any more and rising temperature can affect living things on this planet. On the other hand, Nic Marks in his “The Happy Planet Index” video talks about the planet itself, but focuses more on the happiness of human beings and the planet earth. So, Why is it important for us to keep the temperature down? What is “The Happy Planet Index” and how does it connect to the climate and the planet?

Economists focus on the production and consumptions of a nation. Nic Marks makes an argument against Economists. He thinks we should not focus on the productivity of a nation, instead, we should focus on the important thing which is the happiness of people. He also says "humankind can achieve comparable levels of well-being by following different routes and that happiness does not have to “cost the Earth.” (Marks). Roberts uses Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum’s research, which says “ If global warming continues as expected, it is estimated that almost a third of all flora and fauna species worldwide could become extinct.”( Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum’s website). Marks uses “New Economics Foundation” research, measuring the HPI of all nations in the world, to prove that quality of life is measurable. The result of the HPI research also made headlines on TV “People in the world’s wealthiest countries, who consume the most of the planet’s resources, don’t come out on top in terms of well-being.
