At some point in every individual's life, they will have to deal with the loss of someone they knew and loved. While this is a sad fact of life, it’s inevitable. When someone passes on, however, they are remembered somehow by their loved one that live on. In Burton Raffel’s Beowulf, Beowulf is a great hero loved by all that knew him but tragically, he did not compare to the dragon who took his life. It is unusual that such a great hero did not escape the dragon’s wrath as many other stories about heroes do. In the epic poem, after Beowulf dies, the people build a tower and use it as an elegy to remember him. Williams did not have an easy life. He was very poor at the beginning of his acting career, before he began to become very popular, but he continued because he simply wanted to make others laugh. That in itself is an admirable quality. Furthermore, Williams had a lifelong struggle with depression. Many fans of Williams had a hard time believing this because he had such a contagious, infectious if you will, happy personality. All of Williams work is a testament to the kind of man Williams was. HE wet his entire life trying to bring joy and laughter to people the best way he knew how because he knew what it felt like to be down. He was a truly inspirational person in character and in his humble beginnings. His story has had such an impact on millions of people, including myself, which is how he is remembered, because it is impossible to forget. Even though Robin Williams was taken from us too early, while he was still so young with so much good left to do in the world, h had a life full of great events. He is missed by everyone who has ever been touched by his work or his inspirational story, including myself. Similarly to Beowulf, Robin Williams life is remembered through an elegy. Personally, I will always remember Williams by his movies, great sense of humor and his inspirational life story. This is an elegy of his insurmountable fame, fortune and life.
