Rock Out!
Towards the end of eighth grade, that was the time that I learned what type of music I was interested in, and it was rock music. Thinking nothing of how ‘strange’ it may be, I was happy. All until I hit the middle of ninth grade where some kid heard me talking about some of my favorite bands. “Isn’t rock music for white people? That music sounds like it makes people sad or angry.” They said, and that made me think. “Is it really for that group of people...Does it really make me sad?” Not caring much, I dismissed it until I saw an article online about how rock music caused teens to have an unusual or “weird” personalities. And that struck many wrong things to me because all of those opinions seemed so off. Here are reasons why I think rock can be a good thing.
The message in music can go to anyone, no matter what ethnic background you have. Rock music has so many messages, just like any other genre of music. It can revolve things such as relationships, love, money, why you should be content with your life, and so on. In cliche movies and shows, it shows teenagers rebelling against their parents because of the music the adolescents would often listen to. But if you were to think about it, the artists would give those teenagers a sense of bravery, like it’s okay to stand up to what you believe in. “When you’ve got bigger plans that no one else understands, you’ve got a shot, though.” -5 Seconds of Summer, “She’s Kinda Hot”. These artists are telling young people that it’s okay to be who you want to be and to plan what you think would work best for you. Sure, my mother encourages my writing, but she really pushes me towards the medical route. I know that I’ll have a shot in my dream of becoming a writer, so I’m not going to let that
