It is often to find people's love life to turn into unexpected circumstances. Many start their relationship with the thought to stay forever, despite it possibly can end with a lifelong parting. The play Romeo and Juliet presents a pair of star-crossed lovers that promised to stay together eternally but ended with tragedy. In this play, William Shakespeare analyzes fate through foreshadowing, imagery, and personification to develop a message that life will always fall in a predestinated order without the exception of love.
In the play A Midsummer’s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, many of the characters relentlessly pursue their goals in the face of illogical decisions, and, while fictional items such as the “love-in-idleness” flower are used to explain the character’s sudden love for each other, the play does illustrate how love and ambition can lead to unforeseen consequences. For example, when Puck accidently anointed Lysander’s eyes with the “love-in-idleness” juice, he started a chain of events leading to Lysander and Demetrius fighting over Helena while Hermia is treated as though she is worthless. Moreover, at one point, Lysander and Demetrius even threatened to duel each other when Lysander awoke after being anointed with the flower 's juice and said, "Where is Demetrius? O, how fit a word is that vile name to perish on my sword" (61). This shows how the character’s love for certain other characters, and their ambition to pursue said love, can lead to the destruction of previous relationships and lead them to make dangerous decisions.
People say you only fall in love once; however, what if you have no choice but to fall in love a second time? One might have extreme feelings for one person, but the next minute they could have feelings for another person. Love can be portrayed as a bully that victimises those who fall for its games. In Shakespeare's play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, love is expressed as a bully and targets the people of Athens and those within a magical fairyland. Although, the characters have good intentions, many things go wrong.
In the play “A Midnight Dream” composed by William Shakespeare, he ponders on a quote, “that course of true love never did run smooth” (I.I.134), emphasizing that love is complicated and is not easy. The idea that love is complicated is shown through the many plays that Shakespeare composed like “Much Ado about Nothing.” In Much Ado about Nothing one can correlate the quote from “A Midnight Dream” to the love scenes between Claudio and Hero and Benedick and Beatrice. Those scenes contain the desire to love one another but complications imped them to love as shown, “Marry, once before he won it for me with false dice; therefore, your grace may well say I lost it”, demonstrating the complicated love story between Benedick and Beatrice (ii.i.265-266). Where they are hiding their feelings due to complications and secretly love one another.
During his book “The Future of Life” John Wilson conveys the simplistically similar thought process of environmentalists and conservatives by incorporating speculative language and subjectively vague word choice. In the people- first critic, Wilson implies the “broad and mostly hidden” political agenda of the environmentalists. Yet this supposed looming ulterior motive is not factually based nor justified. It is simply just a spread of slander. Similarly, Wilson enforces through the environmentalist perspective how conservatives harbor a “right wing political agenda” that they keep “mostly hidden.”
Toba Beta once said: "“Justice could be as blind as love.” Shakespeare 's play A Midsummer Night 's Dream captures the blind bias of both love and justice. Egeus, a respected nobleman in Athens, arranged for his daughter, Hermia, to marry nobleman Demetrius. Egeus tells his daughter that she must obey his wishes: if she does not, she can either choose to become a nun, or die. Hermia, much to her father 's dismay, is deeply in a mutual love with a different nobleman, Lysander.
Throughout history, men have always dominated. They never let a woman rise to power or have the same rights. This sexism has been ingrained in society for thousands of years, so much so that it has defined some of the most famous works of literature, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This play was written during the Elizabethan Era, an era in which a woman had all the power imaginable (Queen Elizabeth), and yet, women were still severely discriminated against. Women had no say whatsoever in their society; they were not allowed to vote and they had very few legal rights (Papp, Joseph, Kirkland).
Have you ever fallen in love with someone who has no interest in you and doesn’t love you back? Did that person suddenly start loving you out of nowhere? In A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, Helena’s hunger for love brings out a desperate side in her and takes her through interesting adventures with love. One can infer that love is hurtful by how Helena reacts to love in a foolish manner and remains skeptical about it even near the end of the play.
“And though she be but little, she is fierce” -William Shakespeare. In today’s day and age, one of the greatest topics of debate is gender roles. It is evident everywhere, from cyberspace to the streets of home, from online petitions to marches across the country such as the Women’s March. Shakespeare lived in the Elizabethan Era of England, where Queen Elizabeth I, the virgin queen ruled.
Unconditional love is a prevalent theme in A Midsummer Night 's Dream, and the blind nature of this love can be a great thing, especially since ignoring a romantic partner’s flaws can lead to a happier relationship. However, in A Midsummer Night 's Dream, Shakespeare takes his characters’ love to an irrational extent - so much so, that a prevalent theme of the play is the foolishness and folly of love. Context After being enchanted by Oberon’s love potion, Titania is awoken by Bottom, who she then falls madly in love with. She starts swearing her to love to him, to which Bottom responds: Analysis

In William Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream the circumstances surrounding love have been put into question, this occurs when a magical nectar is put in the eyes of three major characters, and changes their feelings towards the people in their lives. Titania, Lysander and Demetrius all have had the nectar put into their eyes, though Demetrius avoids having this done to him in act 2 scene 2 which is the scene that the focus of this paper will be looking at. Throughout the play, we focus largely on the love life of Helena, which unfortunately does not seem to exist. She is in love with Demetrius, whom does not care for her in the same way, he does not cherish her at all before he is under the influence of magic. Once Lysander declares
Despite popular opinion, love at first sight does not exist. The idea of “love” is widely misinterpreted as a mere attraction between two individuals. However, many do not understand that love goes much further than this, and what follows is a common misconception between love and lust. Shakespeare in his 17th century play Twelfth Night delves deeper into this idea of love. He presents the character Duke Orsino who appear to be infatuated and love-sick for the Countess Olivia, a woman with which he knows little about.
Love is Difficult “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare is filled with many mixed emotions and lots of different themes. Although there are many different themes that readers can interpret, one that really stands out is that love is difficult. This theme is supported when Hermia 's father tries to tear Hermia and Lysander apart and they decide the best decision is to run away together. Also Oberon and Titania can 't stand each other and always get into arguments. The love potion throughout the play messed up Titania and Oberon’s true love.
Today, men and women have equal rights, but that does not mean life has always been simple for both genders. When Shakespeare writes A Midsummer Night’s Dream, there are roles, behaviors, and expectations for the dominant men and submissive women. This literature portrays the major changes in the lives of both sexes throughout the years, which shows the advances women gain with time. The gender issue of men being dominant and women being submissive used in the drama, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, shows the differences in the roles, behaviors, and expectations appropriate for each gender and is an example of an outdated stereotype.
