1.What do the types of entertainment say about Roman Society?
The majority of entertainment in Roman Society had a common trait, and that was violence. Most of their entertainment included fighting, fighting to the death and others involved sacrifices. This shows the Roman’s to be excessively violent and their ability to remove their morals for the purpose of entertainment. It is almost like they used violence as an outlet and for both those participating and those watching. Additionally, violence was generally associated with victory and honor and this likely only encouraged their violent nature.

2.Why do you think entertainment became so important in Rome and what purpose did it serve.
I think that entertainment became so important in Rome because it served as a distraction and a way to keep the masses happy and content. It was free and available to all as a way to distract them from the way that the their society was being governed and keep them preoccupied so that the poor didn’t create unrest among the people. …show more content…

However, we do have some entertainment that is referenced in both Ancient Rome and in today's society. Things like horse racing, soccer, boxing, wrestling and hockey, can all be seen in Ancient Rome. We don’t use horror or gore so much for live events but we do have plenty of horror movies that feature fighting to the death, blood and gore, which were comment traits in Roman entertainment. History has repeated itself in some ways as we still use entrainment as a distraction and a way to consume time. Like in Ancient Rome, entertainment today still can have a more violent tone, though not nearly as brutal.
