Anhur was typically depicted as a man with a spear, or a lion headed God. He was known for his ability to fight on the battlefield and was believed to protect the pharaohs and the nation.
Science today is way more advanced than back in 650 B.C.E. and we have tools and scientists that explain the natural phenomena that we still deal with today. The Greeks however had a very different way of explaining these natural phenomena. The Greeks used Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, and their gods to explain these phenomena for them. Yan covers these phenomena like Earthquakes which were previously thought to had been caused by the sea god, Poseidon, or that storms were caused by Zeus and that the Sun came up everyday thanks to Helios. Which today are now proved through orbit of the Earth and low and high air pressure.
In Greece the Greeks looked up to the gods and goddesses of the Greek culture. The gods and goddesses were the rulers of Greece and had the most power. They over saw everything the humans would do whether it being barbaric or civilized. There were a number of Greek gods and goddesses, but some over powered others. They fought in many wars and helped humans accomplish many different activities in order for them to survive.
They are allowed to interfere with humans in certain ways to certain extents, they have rules, and by punishing/rewarding humans, they create an order of morals/hierarchy so they serve a purpose as well. This presentation of the gods reveals that the Greeks see them as powerful, smarter, and "magically" significant beings. I think that the story shows that they see the Gods to be like us, but with power and authority.

What was even more interesting is that these powers were appointed to the gods by the Greeks themselves, yet, they feared and fully respected them. They were worshiped in temples which were specifically erected for the gods. There was an individual, a priestess in most cases, who could communicate with them and interpret their will. Pythia in Delphi is one of the most known example, at a sanctuary of the Apollo god. Although he was a mythical god, the Greeks were very much intimidated by his prophecies and oracles.
Instead of being perfect omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent gods, they have limited power and influence, and are often driven by humanistic emotions and desires. While the gods do show concern over some mortals, they don’t make decisions solely concerning the wellbeing or interests of the humans, but instead, like the humans themselves, usually act with their own interests at heart. Athena and Poseidon both acts in accordance to their desires and emotions, and have a biased view on particular humans. Unlike the perfect deities we have in mind when we think of the divine, Greek gods are just immortal beings who are just as fallible and imperfect as the humans they preside
Throughout the epic, gods play the role of savior and tormentor. If Poseidon had not decided to attack Odysseus the story would have developed radically different. There would have been no life-threatening obstacle, but simply a path home. Of course this simply cannot occur, hence the fact it’s an epic.
In Ancient Greece, people believed in diverse amounts of myths and teachings to ultimately shed light on how the earth around them came to be. They came to worship not one God, but many Gods. Their gods included the Olympian Gods, Titan Gods, Sea Gods, Sky gods, Underworld Gods, and countless others. People generally worshipped all these Gods, instead of only choosing who they wanted to be loyal to. The story of Hippolytus by Euripides, is a greek myth that really shows the control the Gods had over the people of this time, and the reality that the people in this story had no power of their destinies because the Gods already decided it for them.
In Homer’s Epic Poem The Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as godlike, but at the same time he is a vulnerable mortal. In Greek culture gods were considered inspiring figures. Gods were well known and played an essential role in Greek culture. Gods had absolute power over mortal action.
The Greeks had created the stories for the greek gods. The greek had a god for everything from a god of the Earth, to a god of the ocean. These gods controlled their world. They believed that the gods created man. The gods had control of all disasters that occurred.
They associated each of their gods with a different aspect of life or nature. For example Zeus was the king of the gods, Athena was the goddess of wisdom, Dionysus was the god of wine, and the list goes on. The ancient Greeks erected massive temples to these gods for worship. Each god or goddess had his or her own temple for sacrifices or offerings. They Greeks believed sacrifice was necessary to appease the gods and keep everyday life fruitful and peaceful.

Myths were used by Greeks to make justifications of every existing aspect of earth as well as their own society. In myths, Greek gods & heroes often represented key aspects of the human civilization. From Greek mythology, we can learn about the favorable characteristics of humans, such as their behavior and valuable skills that were approved of by the ancient Greek society.
Greek and Aztec gods and goddesses played a major role in the religion of their respected ancient societies. The Greek and Aztec people created their gods in order to explain natural occurrences and phenomenons in the world around them. In Greek culture, the gods looked and acted like humans and felt similar emotions, making them easily relatable, while the Aztec gods were viewed completely differently and were not similar to humans at all. However, Greek gods, including Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades have had a much greater impact on today’s society than the Aztec gods, such as Huitzlopochtli, Tlaloc, and Quetzalcoatl. The Iliad, written by Homer, is an ancient Greek epic about the Trojan War, which the divine certainly influences. Unlike how most gods might act or behave in books nowadays, the gods in the Iliad share some uncommon traits. For example helping their favorite morals, the idea of justice and harmony is surely excluded in the portrayal of Greek gods. The divine in the Iliad are characterized as very emotional and somewhat manipulative. Regardless of what occurs, it 's all the doing of the gods.
