In the well known play Macbeth by Shakespeare Macbeth's mental health deteriorates in several parts throughout the play. Some of the most obvious parts are Act two Scene one, Act three Scene four and Act four Scene one. These parts of the play show prominent mental health deterioration through hallucinations and killing sprees out of fear. Which are some of the tell tale signs of a Macbeth's tragic downfall through his mental health. In Act one Macbeth starts in perfect mental health and somehow ends this act in somewhat poor mental health. Around scene seven is when we first see any sign of his mental health deteriorating. He had just been crowned Thane of Cawdor and the three witches just told him that he could soon be crowned king. Lady Macbeth reads about this all in a letter from Macbeth and soon she comes up with a brilliant plan to convince Macbeth to murder King Duncan who just happened to be staying at their castle for the night. When Macbeth and Duncan come home Lady Macbeth has a dinner prepared and then she tells Macbeth, her plan for him to take the title of King. In the middle of this dinner with some lords of the land present Macbeth thinks that he's seen Banquo's ghost appear. Lady Macbeth has to pull him aside and say “This is the very painting of your fear this is the air drawn dagger which you said led you to Duncan” (3.4.61-63). This quote shows us how bad that Macbeth is getting cause he is thinking that he sees a ghost of the man that he had murdered and he causes a huge scene at the dinner that his wife invited many prominent guests to.
