Throughout Shakespeare’s play of Macbeth, gaining power seems to be the focal point. Macbeth outrageously does anything in his power to achieve what he wants, his ambition, and his guilt takes over his life and also Lady Macbeth’s life just so he can become king. This is the start of how his guilt and ambition affects his mental health. Throughout the play and both movies who have been directed by Rupert Goold and Geoffrey Wright, it seemed as if being Thane of Glamis and Thane of Cawdor wasn’t enough for him. Macbeth’s actions come back to haunt him during the banquet scene in both movies. Macbeth is dressed in a black and white tux while his wife, Lady Macbeth is in a long red dress. Their outfits seems to represent the roaring twenties. The representation of their outfits seem as if they have a high class status especially because he is now King. The rest of the guest are also in tuxedos and in army uniforms. It appears as if the banquet is held in the basement, and it is very dark. There is this one bright light that seems to be above the blown up painting of Macbeth. This painting is a picture of Macbeth face in an army uniform with red detailing on the shoulders. The background is painted in a bold red color and it seems as if it shows how Macbeth is in charge now. Certainly, how he has power over everything and how everyone must obey him now that he is king. As the dinner continues Patrick Stewart begins to eat his soup while the ghost of Banquo walks his way across the table covered in his own blood while wearing a white button down shirt.
