The Trojan war that took place in the city of Troy lasted ten years and it was between the Greeks and the Trojan people. Odyssey King of Ithaca knew that the war was getting nowhere and he was ready to go home to his kingdom and family. He came up with the idea of getting his men inside this huge wooden horse leaving it in the entrance of the city of Troy and present it as a gift then wait until the night to kill them and win. Although Odyssey did win the war his voyage home took another ten years. During ancient Greek times woman didn’t have many rights or much of a role in their lives besides being a loyal housewife unless they were a goddess and even then they were treated different then gods. Odysseus was trapped for a year with her, originally he feared he had the same destiny as his ship mates. When Hermes gave him Moli to protect him from the spell, Odyssey made her turn his men back to humans. Calypso is another example of a different type of woman with a more different role then being a housewife however while Odyssey was on her island he lived a luxurious life with her. Calypso is a nymph that had Odysseus in her island Ogygia for several years while he was trying to get back home kingdom in Ithaca. She wanted him to stay and offered him eternal life and youth if he'd stay. Odysseus was in this island as a punishment from Poseidon for blinding his son Polyphemus the cyclops. Throughout this time, it was normal for Odysseus to be with various woman, it would be seen normal compared to a woman she'd lose all her reputation of being a loyal and good housewife.
