The Romans emerged from Italy and formed their culture that can find its roots among an array of native tribes and Greek colonies that populated Italy. There are two parts of the foundation of a Roman’s identity that stemmed from the cultural influences that produced the Romans, their culture and their ideals. The first component of the foundation of the Roman identity is the usage and the incorporation of others’ myths into their own etiological myth. The second part stems from these myths that made the Romans believe that their existence and success was the result of fate. By looking into Virgil’s Aeneid and Sallust’s Conspiracy of Catiline one can see that this two-part foundation produced a society and people that embodied this idea that they were the best parts of all the cultures
Romans began adapting to Greeks culture after they learned more about them. These cultures from romans and Greeks combined together to make Greco-Roman cultures. Romans took a lot from Greeks, for example they adapted from Greeks the ideas of sculptures and Architecture. Romans began taking Greeks works and making their own style of them. For example, the Greeks focused on glorifying their portraits and pay more attention towards beauty, characters, and youth, which is what the Romans took after.

In many ways, Rome adopted its culture—art and architecture, literature, philosophy, music—from Greece. Rome architecture is greatly influenced by Greek architecture. Roman architects continued to follow the principle generated by the classical orders the Greeks had first shaped: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian but are altered. The Romans used these orders with greater freedom than the Greeks, often using elements from each order and combining them on a single structure. Roman buildings are also made with ashlar masonry, using cut stone blocks placed in horizontal courses like the Greek buildings.

The Roman attitude towards other cultures was fair and just. They praised what they admired outright and at the same time, unabashedly spoke of what they found to be unfavorable. Unlike many other cultures, they valued the differences between cultures and wanted to intermingle aspects from their way of life with the foreigners. They weren’t afraid of the unknown, to a certain extent, and saw the prosperity in creating a cultural melting pot.
