Romeo and Juliet Analytical Essay Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is a novel that deals with issues of children acting irrational due to their parent’s actions. Shakespeare in the novel Romeo and Juliet uses diction characterisation, soliloquy and imagery, portraying the adults as villainess characters, condemning them to that tittle. These characters strongly effect the children’s life and actions and are a big part of the tragic ending of Romeo and Juliet. Analysis the adult’s words and actions to Romeo and Juliet will confirm this statement, that Shakespeare is condemning the adults. Diction and characterisation are used by Shakespeare to help the audience understand the unsuccessful judgement of the adults. Lord Capulet is Juliet’s father, but the way in which he speaks to her shows that he does not respect Juliet and her right to make decisions for herself. Capulet also believes that Juliet is incapable of having a bright future without his help and has a one-sided judgement towards everything. Lord Capulet demands respect when it is not given usually going to verbally abusing to emphasis his place in power. In the scene during when lord Capulet and Juliet are arguing over marrying Paris, Capulet says, “hang, beg, starve, dies” is referring to the fact that Lord Capulet wouldn’t care if Juliet was to starve or die and he would still ignore her.
