What if Romeo And Juliet took place in modern times? You get that when you watch Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet production. Is it accurate? That's what I will be going over. Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet take place in the same time frame that the play does while Baz Luhrmann's takes place in more of a modern time and in a city. Some aspects of both productions retract from the original plays' ideas. Some points of contrast are the clothing, the party scene, and Romeo and Juliet’s first kiss. The differences between the two movies are pretty big. One change the different movies made was the clothing the characters wore. In Zeffirelli’s version of Romeo and Juliet, you can see the clothing is pretty accurate. In the movie, the characters wear more traditional clothing in that time frame. They appear to be wearing Dresses, petticoats, and bodices for the women and Lace collars, tights, and shirts. These pieces of clothing are pretty traditional in that time frame. In Luhrmann’s version of Romeo and Juliet, the clothing wasn't accurate to the play at all whatsoever, but that's alright because it's supposed to be a modern version. In Zeffirelli’s version of Romeo and Juliet, this first kiss scene is accurate. Romeo asks for Juliet’s hand and then they kiss. Everything about it is pretty much the same as the play. In Luhrmann’s version of Romeo and Juliet, the first kiss scene is completely different. Yes, Romeo still asks for Juliet’s hand but instead of a small kiss, they have a whole makeout session in an elevator.
