The tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet and the devastating film West Side Story are two very common tales about young and nine children who fall in love but where they come from stops them from being together, however, they have many differences in each story as well. When you first meet the male love interest in both stories, Romeo and Tony, they do not want to do anything with their family and friends. Both Tony and Romeo are passionate and affectionate men. Juliet and Maria are the other love interest in the play and film, they are innocent girls caught up in the violence. Maria and Juliet are two girls who are experiencing young love for the first time, they also know when to stand their ground when there is conflict. When the two love interest are meeting in the film/play, it takes place at a party. Romeo and Juliet lock eyes just like Tony did with Maria when seeing each other for the first time. Towards the end of Romeo and Juliet there is a major fight between Tybalt, Mercutio, and Romeo in which Tybalt kiss Mercutio and Romeo seeks out revenge killing Tybalt. Similar to Romeo and Juliet, there is a fight in West Side Story between, Bernardo, Riff, and Tony, where Bernardo kills Riff and then out of anger Tony ends up killing Bernardo. Despite there being so many similarities between these stories, there are still many differences in the stories. In Romeo and Juliet both Romeo and Juliet die however in West Side Story only Tony dies and not both him and Maria. Another difference is that Romeo was heart broken over a girl and was very depressed while Tony was just released from prison and wanted to change his life. Before Romeo decides to drink poison, he sees Juliet; however, he still believes she is dead and ends up killing
