A Feud as Mindless as Breath, Resulting in Death
The greatest love stories, and the most tragic deaths can be blamed on one sole motive, the feud. The play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare is tagged as the most loving, yet devastating story in the history of literature. The story of the two lovers begins happily with the two romanticizing their forbidden love, but then soon ends with both of their disastrous deaths. The cause of their hidden relationship is due to their families’ lack of humanity towards each other. When you observe the structure of Romeo and Juliet’s love story, it is clear that they were forced into solitary by the rules of the feud. The sole reason for hiding all circles behind the family’s tensions, “It must be noted that the family feud is the reason that Romeo and Juliet’s relationship is ‘forbidden love’,”(Source 2). The two lovers met in a situation that they were never supposed to be in, leading them into a dangerous relationship. They never got to experience their love out in the open, meaning they never explored their relationship fully. Without the feud, Romeo and Juliet would be alive. Romeo and Juliet had to get married in secret, rather than being surrounded by their families with support. This type of isolation creates an unbalanced mindset, making the two teenagers incredibly saddened. Without support and communication from their parents, the two teenagers were left incredibly unstable, after all “Healthy communication and effective discipline are what a teenager needs...”(Source 3). Along with the necessity of separation, it also has effects on the well-being of both Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet had to hide their most loved person from the other people whom they also love. The lack of communication made the two lovers not have the necessary reassurance available to them. Hiding and secrecy created mistrust with their family, straining their other relationships.
