Romeo's power as a character in "Romeo and Juliet" comes from his fiery personality, unwavering devotion to love, and readiness to take chances for what he believes in. His love for Juliet, which he expresses in beautiful terms like "O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!" demonstrates his passionate character. (Scene 5 of Act I). He takes risks as a result of this devotion, including slipping into the Capulets' garden to view Juliet.
“If you fear nothing, then you are not brave. You are merely to foolish to be afraid.” (Laurell Hamilton). This quote goes perfectly with how Romeo and Juliet came to die. Foolishness is at fault for the death of Romeo and Juliet because of their foolish outbreaks, foolish handling of their relationship and their foolish acts.
In every Shakespeare play there is always tragic hero. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is a tragic hero that sacrifices his life for his love for Juliet. Romeo is a tragic hero in my eyes because his family is very wealthy and has a high status. His downfall was mostly his fault. Lastly the fall of Romeo and Juliet was not pure loss because the feud between the families ended.
Fate is something we cannot control for it is a higher power than any of us. William Shakespeare wrote “Romeo and Juliet” which is a play about two Italian families who hate each other but whose children have fallen in love. Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy was due to fate, all the events that weren't by choice so the tragedy was made to happen. It was set in stone and no one could do anything about it.
The theme of fate being responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths in the play, Romeo and Juliet. Such as when Friar John was not able to enter Mantua, and transfer Friar Lawrence’s letter to Romeo. However, instances like this one are misleading, as the “star-crossed lovers” hold responsibility for their ultimate demise. Romeo and Juliet’s ultimate deaths were an inauspicious side effect of their own actions, rather than fate, because they were far too passionate, demonstrated suicidal tendencies long before their suicides, and made very brash decisions. Romeo and Juliet’s passion for one another was a component that led to their final moments.

In the Oxford dictionary, a tragedy is described as a serious disaster. In Shakespeare plays, tragedy is described as a story that ends unhappily due to the fall of the protagonist, also known as the tragic hero.
Juliet is represented as a quiet, and obedient, girl who shows maturity beyond her age. She develops from a naïve girl who is dependent on her family to a woman who is self-assured, loyal and capable. In this scene, the nurse confuses Juliet and she is distraught when she thinks that Romeo is dead. She finally realises that Romeo has killed Tybalt and expresses her distress at Tybalt’s death by the man she loves.
Second, Romeo would be considered as a tragic hero because he has suffered a reversal of fortune of high level. Referred to pg.265. “ Put this in any liquid thing you will, and drink it off; and, if you had the strength of twenty men, it would dispatch you straight”. Here we see Romeo purchasing a toxic substance from an Apothecary for himself at the “misfortune” of his beloved Juliet. The quote is an example of a reversal of fortune because in the start of his relationship with Juliet he is happy, irrational, and a love drunk teenager with everything to lose.
Fake Love There is a difference between love and infatuation. In the Play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo claims Juliet is the woman he is helplessly in love with and is destined to be with. Although he may think that he loves her, his desire is captivated by her looks. Throughout the play, it becomes more obvious through Romeo's words, history, and knowledge that he does not know the loyalty of love. “Young men’s love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes” (Act 2, Scene 3, Lines 67-68)
In the prologue of the play, Shakespeare writes, “A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life; Whose misadventured piteous overthrows Doth with their bury their parents’ strife.” In this quote, Shakespeare expresses that the misfortune of Romeo and Juliet had positive outcomes in ending their families’ feud. His use of the word ‘star-crossed’ shows that Romeo and Juliet’s fate was influenced by their fortunes and astrology. This incorporation of fate and fortune correctly reflected the belief of many during this time that fortune and astrology influenced a person’s unchangeable fate. While Shakespeare was writing the play, the bubonic plague was sweeping Europe.
My devotion although not portrayed when with Rosaline, defines how my life is brought to an end in order to show it to Juliet. In Act V, Scene i, when I initially hear the news of Juliet's "death", I immediately recall a local apothecary who I know will have a drug so powerful to kill me. After receiving this potion, I state, "Come, cordial and not poison, go with me. To Juliet's grave, for there must I use thee," which shows my clear intentions of killing myself to be with Juliet. Instead of even considering living without Juliet as a possibility, I immediately conclude that it's not because I'm so devoted to being with her.
All is fair in love and war, and arguably hate. Love and hate are equated because they are both strong emotions which impair our sense of judgment and discernment. All is fair in love and war because they are irrational and therefore justified. “Love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. Philosopher Rousseau once said, “ Love is strong to overcome hatred, transform prejudice, and shatter the will to live…such is the power of love”. The books we have read this year all have something similar; they all connect to love. Each choice of the characters in the book are determined by love. Romeo and Juliet being an obvious one but also The Miracle Worker and To Kill a Mockingbird. In each book characters grow because of love while others, die because of love.
Amour Fou “In the name of love” is a common quote we hear in today’s media and literature. We can interpret this as a noble guise to justify actions. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, a generations-long feud between the Montague and Capulet families throws the city of Verona into disarray and triggers tragic ramifications for Romeo, Juliet, and all those implicated. As a result of revenge, love, and a secret marriage, the young star-crossed lovers are forced to grow up quickly. The thought of dying rather than being without their lover.
