She slowly takes charge of her life and takes matters into her own hands. Juliet is presented as quiet and dutiful, but with an inner strength and maturity: when her mother suggest that she should marry Paris because of his money and good looks, she responds: "I'll look to like, if looking liking move". However, when she meets Romeo she is prepared to defy her parents and marry Romeo in secret.
This ended in Juliet becoming more confident and her desires changed. “I will not marry yet, and, when I do, I swear It shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate, Rather than Paris.” This quote shows Juliet refusing to marry Paris which is also her disobeying her parents. After this refusal, Juliet grows her independence and defiance of her family’s expectations. As she falls in love with Romeo these traits increase.
“I’ll look to like, if looking liking move” (21). The conversation was about the arranged marriage in which Juliet don’t even know whom she is going to marry. Shakespeare demonstrates Juliet’s innocence through dialogue, metaphor and imagery. Juliet’s innocence is proven through the use of dialogue that showcasing her immaturity and obedience.
When they decided to get married her parents can’t know about it. Since her parents don 't know about the marriage, they arranged her to marry Paris. Paris seems to be a fantastic guy, but since Juliet is already married she cannot marry him. Juliet is very upset when she heard the news about the arranged marriage you could tell when she said, “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris.” Juliet absolutely didn 't want to marry Paris.
In the book Romeo and Juliet, we have learned that the opinions of marriage, are different among most people. Many parents have different opinions as well. Some are willing to give their son or daughter away at a really young age. Others are more sceptical about it. These parents want to keep care of their child for as long as they can.
Juliet chooses her love for Romeo quickly. “If that thy bent of love be honourable thy purpose marriage, send me word to-morrow” (Act 2 , scene 2, line 143-144). Juliet is going to send someone tomorrow to ask what time she is going to get married to Romeo, even though they just met a couple hours ago. Juliet is starting to just care about if she is getting married and nothing else. “To-morrow night look that thou lie alone; Let not thy nurse lie with thee in thy chamber.

In the play they know that their families are against one another and they would not approve of them getting married, but out of selfishness they do. In the play the quote from act 1, scene 5 ,Juliet states,”My only
( II, ii, l. 121-122) She even agrees to get married to Romeo the very next day. Juliet’s rebellious streak is yet again evident when she says she will not marry Paris. In the patriarchal society that she lives in, she is expected to obey her father's . When Juliet says that Paris "shall not make me there a joyful bride".
Interpreting Juliet ’s quote, she talks as if she had already been willing to get married with him. However a few quotes back she was talking about whether she should trust Romeo. This shows her indecisive characteristic, which shows that she is untrustworthy. To add on, Juliet can be seen impatient and irrational when waiting for the nurse to bring news.
When Juliet sees Paris, he is asking all these questions about loving him, Juliet never tells him she is married causing him to want to still marry her. " That may be, sir, when I may be a wife" (IV.1.19). Juliet will not tell Paris how she feels causing him to want to marry her, if she just told him the truth about her feelings and wasn’t arrogant about it, she would still be alive. During this all Friar Laurence is there listening to Juliet talk to Paris and he never jumps in to tell Paris that she is married. "The correlation between the behaviors of the friar and of other characters indicates that accepting Paris, defiance of conventional expectation is wholesale.
Alan Watts once said, “Never pretend to a love which you do not actually feel, for love is not ours to command.” (brainyquotes.com). Watts is saying that we can't just say that we love someone, we have to feel our heart swell with the love we have for that person. In William Shakespeare's, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love because they automatically fall ‘in love’ after seeing each other once, they decide to get married a few hours after they meet and they are too immature to actually know what love is . One reason Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love is that they fell in love right after they meet (lust at first sight).
The most defiant choice that Romeo and Juliet take for their love is their choice to be married. Juliet knows that her father or anyone in her family would not approve of this choice, but she still does it cause she loves Romeo. This love struck mentality drives Romeo and Juliet to be married and this secret marriage causes turmoil when Lord Capulet demands Juliet to marry Paris. Although Juliet knows that she is already married to Romeo loyal to him, not Paris and refuses to marry “doth Paris” (Shakespeare. III.v.145).
Why did Romeo and Juliet’s marriage went so wrong at the end? Maybe it's that they were not meant for each other. Maybe it's that they're family hated each other. Maybe it's because they both committed suicide. Whatever reason it was we can both agree they both weren't thinking when they were by each other and never thought about what would happen if they marry or the fact that they are total strangers.
She is able to deceive the Nurse from suspecting that she fell in love with Romeo. Furthermore, Juliet struggles with another problem when her parents decide that she was to marry the Count Paris when she was already married to Romeo. When Juliet refuses to marry Paris, she states, “I will not even marry yet, and when I do I swear it shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate, rather than Paris.” (III.v.126). She is not obedient to her parents like she used to.
