Well after reading through these articles especially the 5 whys and root cause analysis was very interesting and has given me new insights into conflict and problem solving, I wish I had known this a while back, and would have helped my friend and his family, anyways here is what happened to them
My friend and his family moved to a new house which had a very nice landscaping and garden and the area is located in wooded section, the previous owner took good care of the landscaping, my friends family consisted of 2 children and they also had a dog, after some months they started seeing bad patches in the yard and found out that the dog was digging the lawn, they were dismayed to find that the dog was responsible for doing this to the lawn they

The dog was digging it up. that was now obvious to them and this was creating the bad patches.
Why was the dog digging it up? the landscaping company told them that there were some moles present on the property and that was the reason the dog was trying to get at the moles. so now comes the question of
Why were moles in the yard? Because they like the grubs present in my friends yard and there were many as the landscaping company found out.
Why are there grubs in the beautiful yard? as they found out that the grubs were attracted to the fertilizer they had been using and since the previous owner didn 't had any dogs he was not aware of this problem.
Why did he was using this new fertilizer? they chose to keep using the same brand of fertilizer as the previous owner did and since the previous owner did 'nt had any dogs he was not aware of this problem about the grubs and moles in the yard he thought it would make his yard look better.
so using the 5 whys technique its easy to come to the root cause of the issue and conflict, some times I wish our politicians would apply the same techniques and keep aside there ideology, to come to conflict resolution faster and in a just
