Road safety has been a major issue in cities across the world as many people often feel unsafe while operating a vehicle on busy roads with high traffic. This issue has been a major problem in the city of Atlanta that has caused drivers and pedestrians to travel through the highly populated city. With congested areas of traffic, and drivers not giving their full attention to the roads, there has been a significantly high number of car accidents that happen throughout Atlanta. These issues cause problems with road safety, as well as the city’s fast increase in population and businesses that lead to an increase in traffic. For instance, many states in the United States are advocating for road and traffic safety agencies to get involved with some of the dangerous roads in highly populated cities. These agencies can conduct road network assessments, which assess the safety and stability of certain roads during a given period of time. In an article written by Andrea Paliotto, “Development of a network-level road safety assessment procedure based on human factors principles,” she explains in detail the importance of the need for these agencies to get involved with keeping the people safe. According to Paliotto, the network assessments will assess the safety of roads before accidents occur, and then assess the human factor of an accident afterwards. This measure allows agencies to observe and react to further prevent serious injuries and fatalities. The city of Atlanta can take this system to use on their most populated and dangerous roads throughout the city. Doing this can make a significant impact on the safety of the people traveling on the busy roads, because they can observe what is causing the roads to be dangerous, and find ways to resolve the problem and decrease the risk of accidents through the use of the network assessments offered by road safety agencies. In addition, another idea that could be used to make roads in Atlanta safer, is the idea of a safety index introduced by the road safety management
