The memoir, Handbook for an Unpredictable Life by Rosie Perez, talks about how Lydia robbed a store. Lydia abuses her gun rights and she just using the pistol for fun. Lydia steal for fun and Rosie knew stealing was wrong. Rosie found out about her mother’s illness schizophrenia because Lydia always speak out her mind. Lydia is a open book.
Maria Amparo Ruiz De Burton work entitled the “The Squatter and the Don” captures the essence of Michel Foucault’s proposition on discourse and power by drawing from the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo in 1848. She illustrates the racism and deprived rights the Mexican-American faced after being falsely promised to be given citizenship. The discourse of Burton’s work is the written laws that any citizen living within the state is supposed to abide by. Don Mariano is a man of the Alamar family who resided in San Deigo with his wife Dona Josefa and their children.
“The Stolen Party” is a short story written by Liliana Heker, about a young girl named Rosaura, who attends an upper-class party believing that she is a guest. Rosaura, a maid's daughter, thought that she was invited to enjoy the party of her friend Luciana. However, throughout the story, Heker subtly displays Rosaura as a servant rather than a friend to the birthday girl. Rosaura, at the time, has yet to realize and assumed that she was just special. After the party was over, Rosaura eagerly waited for the presents that Senora Ines was distributing.
Aria by Richard Rodriguez Aria is an essay written by Richard Rodriguez's. Throughout this essay Rodriguez tries to show the leader a part of life that not every is able to experience. Richard uses this particular writing to show how hard he had to fight during his childhood years to learn the English language. Although he wasn't too happy about speaking English, he knew it will help him try and fight into society. Not only is he having to face society, but also struggles with life at home, and trying to live up the standards of the “normal” English student.
In the “Time of the Butterflies” is a hidden propaganda novel during the cold war when Catholicism and the western world heavily opposed the evils of Communism. In her novel Julia Alvarez convinces us otherwise through depiction of an atrocious dictatorship and exceptional everyday freedom fighters. Through this she develops a truth to our understanding of an enemy, and highlights the faults in our own faith. In pg.53, the Catholic Church is in full support of the dictator and paints him as a holy saint, a Jesus Christ figure.

In the beginning of the story Ji-li is the happiest girl in the world. During the prologue Ji-li says” They hoped I was the happiest girl in the world, and I was”. This proves in the beginning of the story Ji-li describes that she was very happy.

The book Kindred, by Octavia Butler, revolves around two completely different time periods. One that is formed from hate, and restrainment, and the other is formed from love and freedom. From Kindred, we start to learn that it is not the time period that influences the ideologies, it is the people. According to Kindred, the society we grow up in greatly influences our ideology by shaping our thoughts, so our actions are always based off what our society taught us.

She is born on October 25, 1969, in America. Castellucci grew up in New York City where she attended the Laguardia High School of the Performing Arts.
Gloria Anzaldúa’s “La Prieta” tell her struggles with identity by talking about prejudices she dealt with while growing up. These prejudices, such as colorism, sexism, and heteronormativity, were not only held by people outside her social groups but within them as well. Anzaldúa goes on to explain the way identity is formed by intersecting factors and not only one aspect of someone’s life therefore denying one factor of identity can cause isolation and self-hatred. The fact that Anzaldúa developed faster than is deemed normal the first struggle in forming her identity.
