Soon after Polonius was killed, Gertrude rushes to speak to Claudius. She tells him that Hamlet killed Polonius after yelling out that there was a rat. She also said if it were Claudius hiding behind the tapestry, Hamlet would have killed him. He tells Gertrude that they must send Hamlet to England. He sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to find Hamlet. At the beginning of scene two, Hamlet has finished disposing Polonius’s corpse. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern find Hamlet and ask him what he did with Polonius's body. Hamlet refuses to give them a straight answer. Hamlet finally agrees to allow Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to escort him to Claudius. He refuses to give a straight answer saying that Polonius is in Heaven or Hell. Hamlet reveals where Polonius’s body is and the king sends his attendants to look where Hamlet said it was. They plan to move the body to the chapel. He is buried in a hurry without a proper state funeral. The king tells Hamlet that he has to go to England right away for his own protection. After Hamlet leaves, Claudius sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to make sure that he boards the ship. Now that he is alone Claudius says that he hope England will obey the orders he set with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The orders to the king of England say that Prince Hamlet should be put to death. He could not be killed in Denmark because the public loves him too much. In Denmark, Prince Fortinbras marches at the head of his army on his way to attack Poland. Fortinbras send his captain to go and ask the King of Denmark for permission to travel through his land. On his way, the captain comes across Hamlet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern going to the ship to England. The captain tells them they plan to fight the Poles. She sings odd songs, and her babbling causes her listeners to draw conclusions. Claudius enters and heard Ophelia’s raving. He says that Ophelia’s grief is from her father's death. He adds that Laertes has secretly sailed back from France. Somewhere in the castle a loud noise echoes. A gentleman enters to warn the king that Laertes has come with a mob of commoners. Laertes starts a rebellion because the people want him to be king Laertes storms in wanting to avenge his father. Claudius attempts to soothe him by acknowledging that Polonius is dead. Gertrude adds that Claudius is innocent in his death. Laertes plunges into a rage when Ophelia enters obviously insane. Claudius convinces Laertes to to hear his version of the events. Laertes agrees. In another area of the castle, Horatio comes across a group of sailors with letters for him from Hamlet. In the letter Hamlet explains that his ship was captured by pirates. He asks Horatio to escort the sailors to the king and queen for they have messages for them as well. Horatio takes the sailors to see the king and then follows them to find Hamlet.
