The city of joy as you know it now was once the capital of this very great nation, and it is usually said that no word, no sentence and no tale can describe the alluring city Kolkata, which happens to be the capital of modern day West Bengal. One of the biggest and bustling metropolis is home to 15 million people. Unlike other bigger cities of India, which are forgetting their roots and modernization is taking place at a rapid pace, but Calcutta now Kolkata has been able to retain its charm which is nothing but nostalgic. Proudly built on the banks of the great river Hooghly, it was basically developed as a trading city and it is not surprising that after London, it was the most important city of the British Empire.
