The first example of when Jack’s evilness is shown in the story is when Jack hunts the pig and puts its head on a stick, the line says “ Jack held the head up and jammed the soft throat down on the pointed end of the stick which pierced through into the mouth. He stood back and the head hung there, a little blood dribbling down the stick” ( Golding, 150). This shows Jack’s evilness because instead of fearing the beast he is offering him the head of the pig that he just brutally murdered.
Jack becomes obsessed with hunting and leads the choir boys into his obsession. Jack was always a relatively cruel character, when Simon, a choir boy, faints Jack seems annoyed by Simon’s fragile health rather than concerned. Jack becomes crueller over time, when Jack attempts to kill the pig for the first time he is unable to. After his blunder he becomes obsessed with proving himself until he is able to brutally murder a nursing sow. After the first hunt Jack gives everyone a piece of pork except Piggy.
What really turns Jack into a fear-ruling tyrant is pig-hunting. Although he just wanted meat at first (he does want meat later too), it turned into an obsession of killing life. The thrill of killing pigs is irresistible to Jack, and he starts not to care about rescue any longer. Jack’s thrill of killing was no longer enough though; he has to make his prey suffer. The obsession of torture is best illustrated during the killing of the sow.
Jack responded by saying they deserved it and acted like it was a good thing that Piggy died, Jack was barely shocked by the fact of Roger just killing Piggy with a giant rock. It also shows that Jack has become more violent over time, as if killing pigs is normal to him.

The pig was having babies and the savages had no problem killing her for meat. Once she was killed, Jack cut off her head and jabbed it onto a stick. They said it was a present for the beast.
