With grants or equalization payments, government would charge the wealthy provinces and distribute the total amount among the poorer provinces. All provinces were suffering from the Depression so taking money from a province that wasn’t suffering as much as another province wasn’t a great idea. Also the wealthy provinces had to tax their people in order to receive the additional money, which would eventually be spread out among the poorer provinces. Thirdly, the provinces also felt that many of the Commission's recommendation would equal to a loss of provincial power. The provinces wanted to have the ability to make their own choices and have their people respect them.
The people who were lucky enough to keep the job they had were paid much less than they were before. More and more people were becoming homeless, and some were struggling to support their family. President Franklin D. Roosevelt put reform and relief measures into place,
The novel, The American Way of Poverty: How the Other Half Still Lives by Sasha Abramsky is about how he traveled the United States meeting the poor. The stories he introduces in novel are articles among data-driven studies and critical investigations of government programs. Abramsky has composed an impressive book that both defines and advocates. He reaches across a varied range of concerns, involving education, housing and criminal justice, in a wide-ranging view of poverty 's sections. In considering results, it 's essential to understand how the different problems of poor families intermingle in mutual reinforcement.
Many Conservative reforms were permissive, as the party was motivated by votes rather than by improving the standard of living for their people. An example of this is the Agricultural Holdings Act. This was made compulsory by the Liberals but introduced as a permissive act by the Conservatives, highlighting each party’s motives around social reform. The permissive acts emphasise the reluctance of the party to make social change, and supports the argument that they only make this change in order to gain popularity with the newly enfranchised working class and therefore win over the other party during this period of intense political competition. The reluctance to pass reforms is further intensified by the Liberal party, as many of the more traditional Whig members did not support Gladstone and Chamberlain in their attempts to pass more social reform during Gladstone’s second ministry.
Most of them were unemployed, sick, old or widowed and not able to work as not their fault. To solve this problem, Beveridge came up with means tested benefit system that would give the people that were in lack a provision in times of crisis. This was paid for by National Insurance Scheme paid by the employee and also contributed by the employer, and that social insurance schemes like child benefit were universal and not means tested as this to help with the extra costs of raising children preventing it becoming a burden to the
Therefore, in my opinion the government hindered more than they helped within the period of 1865-1941 as they struggled to maintain their efforts of help after 1877, most evidently through the era from 1910-1941 as we saw no change in the rights or social status of the
Impoverished families benefit from social networks and government provide them with money and the basic needs for life. Social also helped families with children pay for their education. Huey’s social programing plans was created to stop the poverty levels in America during the 1930’s so America can have a better economic systeeem. In the 1930's, when citizens in the U.S. were in most urgent need for a change, they elected Franklin Delano Roosevelt because of his promises in his first inaugural address of "action". Roosevelt observed the ever-increasing class divide as one of the sources of the Great Depression and set out to redistribute the welfare. The redistribution would only happen with increased government control and the wealthy letting go of their 'liberty' as they claimed. Roosevelt strove to please all, but his focus was to avail those in need, as can be discerned from his primary programs, though his central aid was focused on white laborers. This lack of provision for minorities can be tied back to his need to please all, but his slow action fostered inequality

Why are people still poor to this day? That is a very broad question but we do know that poverty is still a crucial problem to achieving overall world happiness even in 2018. Poverty has been around for millennia but it 's even more of a problem now in 2018. This is because it is becoming more extreme. In the passage “What is poverty?”, the author Jo Goodwin Parker, describes a variety of things that she considers to portray the poverty in which she lives in. She seems to do this through her use of first-person point of view to deliver a view of poverty created by a focused use of rhetorical questions, metaphors, imagery, and repetition to fill her audience with a sense of empathy towards the poor. The author’s use of first person point of view creates the effect of knowing exactly what she is feeling. “The baby and I suffered on. I have to decide every day if I can bear to put my cracked hands into the cold water and strong soap.”

Inefficient policies all around the world and especially in our country are contributing to problems in the society.
