During west ottawa’s homecoming dance there was a girl who was dancing by herself so my friend and I had an idea to go dance with her. This shows caring because we wanted the girl to have fun with us instead of being alone half of the night. In the book Recovery Road and “The Bass, The River and Sheila Mant” Madeline and the narrator are both kind because Madeline helps others in need even if it puts her in danger and she puts other people before herself, the narrator in “The Bass, The River and Sheila Mant”
Touching Spirit Bear by Ben details of the character, Cole Matthews. Cole is a young boy struggling with intense emotional turmoil. His emotions were anger, fear, sadness, and loneliness. Cole sought refuge from these intense emotions by fleeing to an Alaskan island to avoid going to jail because he beat up a boy. However, by going to Alaska Cole denied himself the opportunity to work through his issues and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Sometimes people need a certain experience to change their point of view. In Touching Spirit Bear, written by Ben Mikaelsen, a violent teenager named Cole Matthews is sent on a mission to redeem himself, and faces radical experiences that ultimately change his whole mindset. He commits the crime of beating up a fellow peer, then is banished to an island as a punishment for his actions by the Circle Justice; a committee that serves as an alternative form of justice in the Tlingit culture. He then faces difficult and even deadly challenges. As a result of this experience, he changes from his ungovernable, supercilious ways as he comes to strong and sudden realizations of how wrong he was, and he learns how to be an honest and forgiving human being.
He sees how they beat people down and how ruthless they can be with him and his newfound friends. In her writing, Carol Plum-Ucci poses the question, “How does judgement of others affect how a person
Another example of the beauty of humanity can be seen in Hans Hubermann's character. Throughout the novel Hans is a very easygoing and thoughtful man who has a tendency to put others before himself. Wherever he is, he is always trying to help others. For example when Hans goes around painting windows black to prepare for the air raids he does not charge his customers a certain amount of money. He only charges however much they can give.
Cruelty exists in many forms, just as it has a multitude of affects on different people and characters. In both The Poisonwood Bible by Barbra Kingslover and Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the nature, will, and personalities of the characters are put to the test in response to cruelty. As demonstrated in both of these novels, cruelty can shape a character by revealing the true nature of the victim and bringing guilt upon the perpetrator, which proves that cruelty is the driving force in character development. In The Poisonwood Bible, Nathan Price brings his family to the Congo on a conversion mission, and it quickly becomes obvious that he cares more about the mission than his own family.
His belief in kindness was shredded by Mr. Gilmer’s evil ways. Innocence was once a part of everyone’s lives. It is important to be able to recognize how it can be saved. Do not be the evil presence that knocks somebody else
People tend to underestimate and abuse the things they have and don’t realize how much they need it until it’s gone. People don’t appreciate what they are given and would underestimate it or be cruel to it and because of their immature actions they lose it in the end and realize how much they needed it. A similar scenario happens in the story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, and teaches you the results of cruelty. When a boy named Doodle was born, the narrator had very low expectations for him and named him Doodle because, like he said you wouldn’t much from someone named Doodle. But because of his cruelty he ended up accidently killing his brother ending his happiness.
Kindness is often overlooked in society yet it still manages to hold a great deal importance in the lives of many. Kindness is an empowering emotion that can change perspectives and alter destinies. In The Glass Roses by Alden Rowan the true importance of kindness is personified throughout the story. In the story Stephen is encapsulated by the kindness of his fellow worker and greatly impacts Stephan’s ability to determine his own destiny. The Glass Roses shows that individuals tend to hide their true emotions in order to gain respect from their peers however kindness, once truly unveiled can play a huge role in determining ones destiny.
Poverty and discrimination affects both main characters but in different ways. Richard is ashamed of the pity he is getting and Maleeka is bullied because of what she wears. Both feelings will stay with the main character for the rest of their lives and that's what truly arises emotion in the reader. Richard was so determined to prove he had money, he told his class he would donate 15 dollars to the cause. If he had 15 dollars he probably would have given them in rather than buying himself the food he desperately needs to survive.
Saunders then questions why aren 't people kind to others? He thinks that the lacks kindness are due to the existence of some believe that force us to arrange things and needs: even if we don 't want to be self-centered, we are naturally misled by the idea that everyone
Anne and Bruno alike express that there is goodness in the hearts of everyone. This is shown specifically in The Boy In The Striped Pajamas when Bruno goes under the fence to help Shmuel, his friend in a concentration camp, find his father. The idea of a german boy helping a jew is an example of how even when told otherwise by society, people will still help those in need. Anne Frank also expresses this idea when she writes in her diary, “In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart,” This shows that Anne believed in the goodness of mankind, even when it did nothing but bad to her. Both children even when they’d only been exposed to hate, still saw with pure eyes that everyone was equal and had love inside
The author’s message about kindness vs. bullying, been kindness to other people, they would respect you back. But, bullying to others does not work out with others because you don’t respect others and they would not respect you back. The thematic idea of kindness vs. bullying is shown in the novel Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli when Leo, Stargirl, and others show us the importance of been kindness and bullying through Stargirl’s act of kindness and Leo and others been rude behind Stargirl’s back. Stargirl’s act of kindness impacted Leo and the whole school proves the theme with kindness vs. bullying because she wanted to be an outsider.
Elie Wiesel faced a lot of cruelty and a lot of inhumanity from man throughout his time in the concentration camps from other prisoners and the Nazis. In the memoir, Night by Elie Wiesel, cruelty and the theme of man’s inhumanity to man appears throughout the whole story and throughout Elie 's time within the concentration camps, in that it gives us examples of how the Nazis didn’t feed them enough, beat them, stripped them of their identities, made them run long distances, and how the Jew’s would be cruel to each other when they would take food from one another and beat others. One of the first examples of cruelty is from the Nazis towards Elie. The author wrote “Then I was aware of nothing but the strokes of the whip.
Expanding kindness to all things is the trickiest part. But it can be done. Saunders mentions the most respectable names in history as an example of kindness like Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and Shakespeare. Kindness is what saves each of us. Each of us can recall the random act of kindness that was done to each of us.
